The beautiful Fraser Valley !
With our first Nationally recognized Truth & Reconciliation Day, you have to wonder why our newly elected Prime Minister didn't participate in any of the Ceremonies ? He received two Invitations, to personally attend the Kamloops Ceremonies . Instead, He chose to Holiday on the Westcoast in Tofino today .

Just another Example of Mr Trudeau's lack of Leadership, and never following through with anything He provides Lip Service to . What a poor excuse for a Human Being ! 🥺

Mr Q.

P.S. It's puzzling how Justin had no problem flying out to Calgary, to personally welcome the two Michaels back to Canada .
I guess it's all about Priorities... ?

Well, to be fair, our votes don’t count as much because without electoral reform, Ontario and Quebec will always call the shots.

the west should threaten separation.
sorry to hijack the thread about indigenous people... I really want to see the church pay a billion dollar fine...

Anyone remember Doug Christie and Elmer Kuntsen from the early 80's? These were real, semi credible and significant attempts for Western Separation. It's been 'threatened' for years. But we're still here.

Now fining the churches? No, tax them. Tax their income (donations). Tax the land value. Tax their holdings. That revenue would be in the 100's of B$'s. The long term debt could probably be eliminated in short order with that.

And create a court order to force the churches to turn over all records. Records of the stolen children and of the nuns, priests, janitors, pedophiles, all of the people associated with these schools. Those fuckers are all long gone but at least put a mark against their names.

I know I am going to sound like an ass for bringing this up, but couldn't they have put this stat holiday in a month that doesn't have a day off, like June? We already have Labour Day in September, and Thanksgiving Day is less than 2 weeks away.

Just be patient. National aboriginal day is June 21st. They'll probably make that a holiday sooner or later. Then we'll have both.

Yup, its all based on population and number of seats in Quebec. Last time I looked, Ontario and Quebec have over 50% of the population.... So electoral reform really won't happen.

Geez taxing the Catholic Church (or any other religion), thats a neat concept, almost on par with taxing the indigenous people with land and income tax.

Seems to me that this holiday is a one sided holiday.

reconciliation
NOUN
1 The restoration of friendly relations.
‘his reconciliation with your uncle’

2 The action of making one view or belief compatible with another.
‘he aims to bring about a reconciliation between art and technology’

3 The action of making financial accounts consistent; harmonization.
‘the reconciliation process should be consistent with the business strategy’

What is reconciliation and what does it mean?
“. . . Reconciliation is about establishing and maintaining a mutually respectful relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples in this country. In order for that to happen, there has to be awareness of the past, an acknowledgement of the harm that has been inflicted, atonement for the causes,...

I mean what do the rest of Canadians get out of this day?
I mean what do the non-Aboriginal peoples get? What about their beliefs and views? Does non-Aboriginals views become second to Aboriginals views?

Rule One in politics: They who whine the most, get more money. Reason if you whine the most, it more likely your situation will be looked at and enacted on.

Great idea taxing the Churches. They should be paying up the ass (or is that taking it up the ass). Add a heavy tax to the banks and professional sports teams and we start getting somewhere.

This thread has fuck all to do with truth and reconciliation! It's merely an excuse to bash Trudeau.
These comments should be in the 'Political Thread'.
Kudos to Ms Fiona who has posted the only salient reply to the thread title.
Most of you people have NO FUCKING CLUE!.
