I have to admit I am not sophisticated when it comes to chocolate. I mean if a Crispy Crunch or a Coffee Crisp happens to be at hand, I'll inhale that little sucker like nobody's business. But some time back I was in Toronto in the old Distillery District while it was seeing some major revamping and reclaiming, lots of cool restaurants, bars etc. Walked by this chocolate shop and decided to pop in. They were serving hot chocolate. And the gal behind the counter was one very spicy looking Latin babe, with the Brazilian accent to go with it. WELL, not much I could do except ask her to tell me about her 'hot' chocolate and to serve me up a cup. She explained that a bit of chili seasoning always made chocolate better and who was I to argue with this smoking hot chocolatier? Best friggin cup of hot chocolate I ever had. Not sweet but rich and not lip puckering from that high % cocoa bitterness. And the chili just set the whole thing up. Or maybe it was just that gorgeous Latin woman working some South American magic on me.
