Argh. My pop ups are back. I can only assume this is some devious scheme created by someone’s wife.

Exactly the same problem here about a week ago. Knew it had to be some malware. It was only in one of my web browsers, and only on one computer. Cleared the cache... gone.

We are currently testing various new methods of increasing revenue to the forums. One method we are testing are pop up ads from various vendors. We will test different versions of pop ups, and if we choose to go that route, will pick one that is the least intrusive. Ideally a pop up that appears only ONCE PER VISIT. Why ?

Pretty simple, we havnt raised rates on our advertisers for almost 5 years now and as of matter of fact have just recently lowered our advertising rates for certain segments. This will especially help the many Indies out there right now who are struggling to get by. Finding additional revenue in other areas will allow us to continue doing so.

Our ultimate goal, and main reason why we are doing this is to provide a FREE advertising platform for all independent ladies nation wide. In our humble opinion, there is no better way of growing the forum than allowing as many ladies as possible to advertise and participate here for free. All this just for the simple inconvenience of closing a pop up. Something that takes a fraction of a second to do.

We have had pop up ads here before, and not only did we not lose any members because of it, it was quite the opposite. We still had a steady stream of new members.

If this experiment works out, we will find the least intrusive method possible. If it doesnt work out to our liking, we will scrap the idea. This is just a test.

Sure, the popups can be annoying but we shouldn't forget that we get to use PERB for free. As long as we don't get weird ads or malware, I think it's a win-win if this will lessen the burden financially for wonderful ladies that advertise here.

Also, I like the Ashley Madison ad. It shows a nice ass.

I sure hope this doesn't contravene the rule about arguing with the mods - that is NOT my intent! However, given the "test" nature of this, I thought the feedback was warranted.

I have no problem at all with PERB attempting to increase revenue. For example, I don't have a big problem with the new ads between forums. However, I find pop-unders to be particularly intrusive, annoying, and very un-professional, especially given the perception of how they mess with a browser history.

I may regret saying this - I am NOT volunteering!!!, but I also wouldn't have a huge problem with a small fee to access certain areas of the site. Obviously that wouldn't apply to the advertising sections, but.... For example, there's a web site out there that allows users to read the first line or two, but requires a paid subscription for more. In their case their rate is far too high, but I know I'd be willing to pay a little for access to the better parts. Having said that, anything more than about $2/month (i.e. something like $20-$25/year) and I'd likely disappear.

Just my 2¢, fwiw. :)

Once per day is better. Once per visit is annoying. Again, just my 2cents.
Its already 2 pop ups per visit. As soon as you want to enter in your user id, then again on the first forum read.

I don't get it. I run Chrome, W10 desktop/laptops, not even an ad blocker, but Malware Bytes Browser Guard. I rarely click the ads, watch the amount of clickbait I get into and other than that just go about my usual internet time. I do not get any pop up, pop unders etc. And it has been that way for a few years.
What the heck have you folks been visiting that seems to be affecting all of you?

The pop ups don’t appear when using my desktop browser but does when I’m on my iPhone.

Hey I pay for perb and I'm still getting a shit ton of ads 🤣
This DEFINITELY shouldn't be happening!!! :)

(Or paying users should, at the very least, be given the option to opt out. Still, that may be too complex for PERB's underlying provider.)

I’m just glad it’s resolved and it’s coming from Perb’s end and not malware on my phone. Thanks Fred for clarifying. That being said, as Iwanda noted, the Ashley Madison ad is not really Ashley Madison but rather a phishing web address (with ‘r n’ mashed together to look like an ‘m’) designed to lead the clicker to a landing page for who knows what. I would suggest Perb not consort with such shady advertisements if in fact it is Perb related….

I think its the real ashley madison. If you click the log in or sign up button it takes you to another website in which the "rn" is a "m". And Fred already said the advertising is legit. Its not our cookies or cache or whatever you think its from like visiting other websites. It if was, the popups would occur on other sites, but its only happening to Perb and its affialiates.

I think it's more annoying that as soon as the ad pops up on my phone and I hit the back button on my browser that closes the new tab and goes back to the original page, the page would break and all the links on the forum break.

So I'd have to refresh the page and another pop up comes up.

I really, really, really dislike the pop-unders. They're like stealth intrusions. If PERB decides to make those standard, I'll probably be gone.

On the other hand, pop-ups don't bother me so much. They're right there, up front, not trying to hide. If I'm not interested in what they're advertising, I can just do a quick click and they're gone.

ad blockers folks....ad blockers... they are free no need to complain about ads. just solve the problem if you don't want to support the website by having them in view.
