Just got a weird phone call.
Call display showed a scrolling number at least fifteen digits.
Noisy background, East Indian sounding woman. Says they are ADT running a promotion- bever heard that one before. Want my name, address, credit info.
I asked where they got my number and she said “former customer”.

At this point I think Canada should just sever all phone and internet connection with India. Sick of getting these bullshit scams weekly. They victimise many people and should be kept out.

I got a call from Amazon security yesterday telling me there was a suspicious purchase on my account, kind of surprised me considering Amazon doesn’t have my phone number.
And why would Amazon call you and report you about that. Isn't that the banks job ?

Can't stand those text messages, I have a credit $$$ from telus or whatever comapany they are using and here's the link to get your $$ ... Yeah right

I received a call saying my furnace is due for it's annual cleaning, would you like us to book.
I said sure. So he asked for my name. I asked, since you called me, who do you think you're talking to?
He stumbled for a bit. He didn't have my name, or address on file.
I asked how he got my number. Said I'm a regular customer, he was just following up.
I thought that was interesting. I don't have a furnace. I have electric baseboard heating.
Oh, I must have the wrong number.
Sure.

I have been Getting calls from border security say8ng they confiscated illegal shipments from me and I need to pay up or risk jail time. I ask what is so illegal about horse dildos for personal use and they usually hang up on me. When the CRA calls me, I usu use my old man voice and tell the agent I just pooped my pants. Again, no professionalism. They just hang up on me.

I received an email from my own account saying they hacked my laptop and took videos of me that they would send to everyone on my email list unless I sent Bitcoin to their account. Kinda scary so I did 2 things.
1-used a stronger password
2-put some tape over the laptop camera.

I also get the CRA phone scam. I keep those jerks on the phone as long as possible. If I’m wasting their time, they can’t scam anyone else.

I got a call in August 2018 from one of those fake CRA scammers . Toyed with the guy for a few minutes to keep him from calling another target and after a few minutes as time was pressing on my hand I laid into him using their own tactics....after a minute or two the guy was calling me an A...hole lol. That's when I started asking him how proud his mom and grandma would be to know how he made his living . Sadly he hung up ....

I have never had another call from them but I must say that since Rogers seems to have improved their spam/scam detection software, which tells you when it's a suspected spam call .

I have a favourite approach to the scam that wants to repair my computer. Although I am usually sitting in front of it, I want to waste the scammer's time, so I explain that the computer is on the opposite side of my big house from where I am located, so bear with me while I get to the computer. Of course, I have to turn it on and warm it up before I can then follow their instructions. As you might expect, I only claim to follow their instructions, and when they finally ask "What can you see?" My answer is usually, "Boy is he ever fucking her hard". Women callers usually hang up faster than the men. At least I have managed to waste some of their time.

I'm not sure if this is a scam but last year I got quite a few from local numbers they would say " I got a missed call from you just now"
Which was not possible , my fone wasn't even showing any outgoing numbers in that time.
This person even wanted to prove the miss calls with a screen shot. I told them I don't care it wasn't me and I'm done with it.
The number they called from was very similar to my number.
Happened about 3-5 times last year but not since then.
It was getting annoying. Has anybody had this happen?

It could someone spoofing your number.
Some apps let you create a number to appear on call display.

I usually ask how's the weather in India?
When the a..hole asks my name I spell it..
M i k e H a w k and get him/her to say it.
Sometimes use H u n t if the caller is female.
Fun to toy with them.

All these posts as in everyone of them is something I have been through the past few years. My replies vary from hanging up / ignoring the call to full on engaging the fuckers and they do come in cycles. Has to be the robo caller they are using, when your number comes up you get the calls. One of the good ones I got a few months back was a call that my social security number had been compromised (its social insurance in Canada but what the heck). I hit the 1 to respond and got the heavily accented chap on the other line. He went on to explain he was from the social security department and that they had multiple infractions (I think that was his term) against my number. I asked him what did that mean, I mean was I in personal danger? He explained about how this would affect my banking, my credit cards and so on and he needed to check those accounts. After about 3 min of back and forth where I just kept on asking him questions, I asked him if that was attached to my taxes. He said yes your taxes will be affected too. I then said so if my number that the tax man uses to tax me, is no longer working then I no longer have to back tax right? He couldn't answer that one but I kept on it. Finally he said he needed some help and after about 15 sec the line went dead.

These are so obvious I file them under minor annoyance and miscellaneous entertainment.

The spoofers though, both tel numbers and emails, deserve a special extra hot corner in hell.

Their softwares randomly use phone numbers active or inactive to mask the origin of their calls. It uses residential and commercial phone numbers .
