I have been across the border regularly for "Essential Day trips" and believe what golfer John has laid out is what you would likely expect.
There are tents that are Covid Testing Units at the borders, you may get randomly selected and tested, then allowed to carry on if you qualify, then they would contact you via ArriveCan app if you test positive and you would be expected to follow your Quarantine plan and you can be assured that they would be checking up on whether you were following said plan...

If that is how it goes than all day trippers should be good. Unless Canada contacts a day tripper and tells them you must return to Canada for 14 days quarantine when you have already gone home. That would be bizarre.

Are you actually interested in coming up here or just having fun hypothesizing absurd reasons not to. AFAIK, the USA doesn’t require a negative test for citizens to repatriate at the land border so even you were notified by the ArriveCAN (weird that proper name is now in my phone’s predictive dictionary) app, you could just head back to the 49th and head home. Another way to avoid such an unlikelihood would be to withdraw your application to enter Canada(go home) if they want to do a random test.

first-of-all, a huge 'thank you' to my friends above the 49th...accepting science (at least 70% of you so far) and proactively protecting yourself (and most importantly, everyone you come in contact with). Secondly, a pre-emptive apology for all the Delta coming your way from the deniers (40+%) down here...I will N-E-V-E-R understand that mentality, but perhaps Darwin does (and he's playing 'the long game')
So I jumped-on Arrive/CAN to upload my documents/vax-card/etc. and got stumped by having to spell-out my 14-day quarantine plan that I don't have. My 'day-plan' was to swing-by Panther Wheel in Surrey, scope-out any/all Shoppers Drug Marts (for my favorite Adidas anti/deo...only non-aluminum oxide on the market and no longer available in The States), spend a few hours at MP Triangle, grab a bite and then scurry-home before my pup's bladder-evacuation schedule reaches DefCon 5.

Has anyone made the trip across yet? If so, what kind of quarantine plan would one need if they're only in Canada for 3-5 hours?

i’m officially moving to LA this September, I’m double vaxxed and luckily flying private if needed, but me being the cheeky Romanian traveller I am is hoping to drive across and road trip. Obviously if the land border is not open, I’ll fly private, but I’ll let y’all know how my crossing goes. This will be the second border crossing this year btw, I went to LA this past December, but obviously made it there and back with no worries. I have an autoimmune disease too, so vaccines are extremely important, as I can definitely be at risk if I got sick. Surprisingly cause of my illness I was double vaxxed early and have had ZERO problems other than my wifi seems to work better on my iPhone that definitely doesn’t already track me!

So I made the trip up yesterday from the 49th. Had all my papers and told them I was a day tripper. Was not told to go for the random test, which would be the correct thing to do for a day tripper. No hard questions, such as when where who why from Canada officals.

Upon return a simple flash of my Nexus and on my way home. Easy money this time.
