Considering how we don't manufacture any of the vaccines, I think we're doing pretty good...

shots per capita

we're around 40th

there are 3rd world countries ahead of us, countries that started vaccinating later than we did

but we bought the most, right?

we're down to one vaccine, Pfizer, virtually

Moderna, Astra, the soon supposedly J&J, wouldn't last a day from the supply we're getting, if and when they might show up

impressed with incompetence, how sad

if only we had the orange man, lol

instead we got the black faced one

Check the CTV tracker, if you control for population, among countries with at least a population of 1 million, we are 9th or 10th in the world at having administered a first dose of vaccine and we have been climbing steadily. All the emerging science supports our approach as a single dose gives months of protection. You naysayers are continuing to desperately grasp at straws, but unfortunately for you soon you will be grasping at nothing but air.

If we continue to get our scheduled 2 million doses a week of Pfizer, we are on track to meet our goals and it seems that Trudeau's close relationship with Bidden is continuing to pay dividends, as this week Bidden suggested more doses are headed our way.

And you may also note Trudeau has now secured booster shots for subsequent years from Pfizer.

Some countries in Asia look like a black hole of vaccination - Japan < 2%, Thailand < 2%, Asia as a whole < 4%. India bucking the trend @ 8.5%.

India currently vaccinating @ 3M a day (!!!) - could fully vaxx Canada by May 2 at those rates. But their population is so huge @ 1.38B so even if they tripled their daily vaxx to 10M a day, it'd still take 5+ months to fully vaxx their population.

Yeah, Chile, Bahrain, Serbia, Israel and UAE are the movers and shakers of the world economy. LOL.

Chile adopted the Sinovac vaccine so didn't compete for vaccination production, unlike Canada. Turns out that 1 shot of Sinovac only provides 3% efficacy and 2 shots provide 53%. And their infection #s have NOT dropped, unlike Israel or the UK. IMO, they're back to square 1.

Israel has high vaccination rates because they basically volunteered their whole population to Pfizer as a massive phase 3 trial.

Orders from smaller countries were barely footnotes. Of course those countries would be done faster, just like it's easier to clean 2 ice cream trucks and not the whole Canada Post fleet servicing Toronto. But I wouldn't expect someone like you to understand that. Trudope baaaaad, amirite? Worst PM ever.

Japan's vaccination rate is still very low. I think they are still bent on hosting the Olympics this summer, but I don't know how they can pull it off without creating a super spreader event.

Japan may not be allowing spectators at the Olympics.
Teams and support staff are being cut back and some events eliminated.
The games might still not happen.

We are getting more vaccination doses in the next 5 weeks than the previous 5 months COMBINED.

Proof the vaccines are working: "...the dramatic decline in COVID-related hospitalizations and deaths among people aged 80 and over is a testament to how effective the vaccines are in the fight against the novel coronavirus. Federal data suggest the number of COVID-19 cases among people over 80 has dropped from 35 cases per 100,000 in January to less than five now. "

As USA gets closer to being fully vaxxed some of their production may be exported to Canada.

For some perspective this is an interesting source of info. (Real fact checked information not the BS the antivax crowd are spewing) Scroll down for worldwide data and specific info for every country. Canadian Data is about a week old and our % is now quite a bit higher.

Canada Is 8th in the world in % of pop vaccinated. We are behind the US and UK, who both have massive manufacturing capability and until recently exported nothing . Also behind Israel and Chile who agreed to be used as test subjects and share health information with manufacturers (I'm sure Jason Kenny and his ilk would have been just fine with that if the Feds had suggested it a year ago. Note enormous sarcasm in my voice) Also behind Hungary who are using the Russian and Chinese vaccines.

We're ahead of every other western country including all of Europe. I'd say we're doing pretty damn well.

The obsession to have a certain placing in the world compared to other countries is a bit befuddling to me as every country has its unique set of circumstances (some stated in this thread). You can be first and still be doing a bad job according to your own standards. These are stories that raw data can't tell you.

bullshit, look at the stats when it comes to fully vaccinated

we're behind virtually every country in the EU, some 3rd world countries too

those countries you and the Lying Sack of Shit Liberals are bragging about us being above aren't that far behind on first shots either, most are within 10%

so they actually are way farther ahead of us, when you take both important stats together

we're the only country in the world that's waiting 4 months to get a 2nd shot

completely due to the incompetence of Trudeau, plain and simple, like him

we're not doing well, talk to the "experts" about not getting that 2nd shot within the manufacture's guidelines

about the possibility of the virus mutating because of it

it's uselessness due to losing it's efficiency by waiting that long

and the UK, had less vaccine capacity than Canada last year this time, they had a leader who made it a priority

we didn't

that is more bullshit lies being pushed by the Liberals to cover their dear leader's failure by going to his Masters in China instead of the real world or

better yet going with Canada's people, industry, researchers, like the guy in BC who helped Phizer with the delivery system for their vaccine

we have no one capable in Canada, Trudeau's line

Trudeau thanks you for being a useful in his cause to lie to the Canadian public though to make him look good

we're really down to one vaccine, Phizer

Astra, who knows when, Moderna, maybe, this week maybe next week, J&J sure maybe, sometime in July

Canada, where being sorta mediocre has become pretty damn good!!!!

I don't think it's as starkly negative as you put it. We're following a strategy of widespread first doses before mass-administering the second doses. In terms of outcomes, we're quite middle of the pack with most of the EU countries. In fact, Canada has done quite well with a lower death-per-capita rate, save for Norway and Finland. Considering that we don't have national production capacity and are an importer of our vaccines, it would seem like we've been getting our equitable share.

What exactly do you mean by the UK having less vaccine capacity than Canada in May 2020 and Boris Johnson made a priority?
Trials had not even begun at this time last year.

we're the only country in the world that's waiting 4 months to get a 2nd shot
That was the plan, but it doesn't mean we (Canada) can't revise it. There is plenty of time left to make a revision. And with potentially tons of various vaccines arriving soon, we may very well be in a position to decrease the time between shots to much less than 4 months.

That being said, however, the UK was planning on waiting 12 weeks, or almost 3 months, between shots, and there is substantial support for that, e.g.:

"Britain's health chief said Wednesday that a new study suggesting that a single dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine provides a high level of protection for 12 weeks supports the government's strategy of delaying the second shot so it can protect more people quickly with a first dose."

https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/coron...cates-delaying-2nd-astrazeneca-shot-1.5293596

"... in recent weeks, proponents of delaying doses have been able to point to mounting evidence suggesting that a first dose can provide potent protection that lasts for a number of weeks."

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that two weeks after a single dose of either the Moderna or the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, a person’s risk of coronavirus infection dropped by 80 percent. And researchers in Britain have found that first-dose protection is persistent for at least 12 weeks.

"Dr. Emanuel argued that Britain’s campaign to get first doses into more people had played a role in the 95 percent drop in cases since their peak in January. “It’s been pretty stunning,” Dr. Emanuel said.

"OTTAWA -- The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) is standing by its recommendation to delay second doses of two-shot COVID-19 vaccines by up to four months, but is now acknowledging that given Canada’s increasing vaccine supply, not everyone will be waiting four months between their doses."

".... “With Canada's expected vaccine supply, the interval between the first and second dose is expected to be less than four months,” said NACI Vice-Chair Dr. Shelley Deeks.

"NACI is projecting that as supply of vaccines increases in Canada the interval between shots will likely be closer to the initial guidance, with second doses being scheduled for a month and a half or two months after the first."

.... According to Deeks, Canada may be the only country advising an up to four-month delay between doses, but others have been using a three-month interval between shots.

.... The committee also noted Wednesday that jurisdictions continue to have the ability to opt for a shorter timeframe between the first and second doses, “based on local rates of cases and what is known about where transmission is happening, local vaccine supply, their local methods of delivering vaccine and emerging evidence.”

When all the people stop complaining, you know something is drastically wrong....

So whereever Canada is, its a good thing.
So the thing is, while everyone is getting a shot, they are the "actual" humans test subjects to see if all the shots work. Human guinee pigs.... got to like that..... (usually its a 2 year test on humans after animal testing; which means that we have 1.7 years of testing left-- to go by old standards of getting immunization approved).

Everyone have a bright and cheery day..... 😲 :D:LOL:😂

So far so good.

Israel, the UK, San Francisco, etc, are nearing herd immunity with infections at only a tiny percentage of the pre vaccine situation.

Yeah, things are looking real good.

With so many more working on covid vaccines compared to previous vaccines, they were able to fast track them.

One hundred people can build a house faster than one person.

"The Covid vaccine trials happened at breakneck speed, but they didn't skip any steps - they were able to move faster because so many people were involved and other projects were put aside."

https://www.bbc.com/news/health-55056016

-----------------------

"How was the COVID-19 vaccine developed so quickly?

In the past, vaccines have taken many years to develop. However, the relatively quick development of this vaccine does not mean safety measures were skipped. There are several reasons why the COVID-19 vaccines were developed faster than other vaccines:

  • The technologies used to develop the COVID-19 vaccines have been years in development to prepare for outbreaks of infectious viruses. The manufacturing processes were ready very early in the pandemic.
  • Countries shared genetic information about the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus when it was available, which gave vaccine developers an early start at finding a vaccine.
  • The testing processes for the vaccines didn’t skip any steps, but the vaccine developers conducted some stages of the process simultaneously to gather as much data as quickly as possible.
  • Governments gave money to vaccine developers in advance, so the companies had resources they needed.
  • Some types of COVID-19 vaccines were created using messenger RNA (mRNA), a new technology that allows a faster approach than the traditional way vaccines are made.
  • Social media enabled companies to reach out to and enroll study volunteers, and plenty of people wanted to help, so there were enough research participants to test the COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Because the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus is so contagious and widespread, many volunteers who got the vaccine were exposed to the virus, and with so many exposures, the trials took a shorter time to see if the vaccine worked.
  • Companies began manufacturing vaccines ahead of their authorization or approval so some supplies would be ready if authorization occurred.
