The community in Mission did really well there. There may be hope for humanity yet. Well, parts of humanity anyway.

My question is why is a young teenager not being supervised by adults? Grade 8 is around 13. Most parents won't let their kids go out without some kind of supervision either from other parents and or they are with friends that they trust.
This raises several question I have about this incident.
Bullying has been in the news for years, and again why did the kid get beat up? I'm pretty sure most kids now, since conception are taught that physical violence is not tolerated? So again how did the kid get beat up? Why didn't the bystanders do something? Did this group of kids watching, were they talked to about what they did wrong?
Something stinks in Mission.

Something else I see lately, or is it just a trend. When something like this happens the community has a event. A Rally. Are the people in the community looking at the root causes of the beating? Bulling? Did they do stuff before hand to prevent something like this from happening? I think the term here is "long term commitment" .

But the question is the rally going to change anything, because the group dynamic of the kids watching and filming the event says its ok to beat on on people that are different!!!!

So the rally gets some like minded people together to protest, but is it really going to change the mind of people to stop violence against different people??? Again it has to do with commitment and education of the public.

Personally this reminds me of the Reena Virk murder that happend in 1997...

I sure hope there isn’t two sides to the story.

What would people think and say if it turned that the boy who was getting kicked had done something that could have justified what happened? What would people say if it turned out the boy had sexually assaulted one of the girls?

There are two sides to every story. Whatever the other side is here can't justify the beating, nor can it detract from the community response.

I don't see the rally as a protest so much as a show of support for the kid who was beaten.

The two side are almost never told.....in cases like this IMO......

I strongly agree. If I have one overriding problem with our press nowadays it's that we seldom hear both sides objectively. Now I'm still not sure that would have been the appropriate response to a sexual assault, though it makes it much more understandable, and might make perfect sense in the heat of the moment (and without a mature brain - not a put-down, just an observation that kids' brains aren't mature).

This Community rally was a show of Support for a 13 year old Transgender Girl !
And I fully recognize that this in itself, is not going to solve the Ills of our Society .
I'm hopeful that public Displays such as this, are a step in the right direction .

I also fully agree that there's usually two sides to a Story .
But, I would have to assume that the RCMP moving forward with Charges, and Arrests would illustrate their investigation of the Facts .

The Reena Virk murder was another tragic case of Bullying gone to the extreme !
I don't recall the Victoria Community having any kind of Rally to demonstrate their revolt of Reena's Murder ?
But, I could be wrong .

Kelly Ellard to my memory has never expressed, or shown any Remorse for her role in Reena's Murder .
And I would put her in the same class of an evil despicable Human Being, as Karla Homolka !

The point of the Thread was to acknowledge a Step in the right direction . Even if it's a Baby step .

I hope you didn't misunderstand me. I LOVED the show of support!!! My comment was strictly about the media and how it can distort things. From everything I know (and that's part of the problem - I don't know all the facts and I'm not even sure they're all available), the transgender girl was truly the victim in this story. There is no way I was justifying the reprehensible actions of the perpetrators.

But, as the old saying goes, "to know all is to forgive all". Everyone has his/her/their side of the story :)

Sometimes....and I was not there.....the other side of the story is just a person standing up, or defending who they are.
There where two people laying the boots to another single person, who was laying on the ground, defending their face.
There may have been things said by either party before the filming took place....but it was two against one, and the one was down in a self preservation position.

No worries ! ? As another old saying goes... "No Harm, No Foul !"
And whether We ever have all of the Facts, is another Story .
The Media definitely has a perverted way of exposing the Facts in a News Story !

Maybe a few more Tidbits...
