And wtf is up with so many people wearing ill fitting cloth masks that they're constantly touching to adjust back into place. And then they're touching everything in their surroundings...like for example, produce items in the grocery store

Those people make me cringe more than the people I see not wearing a mask.

How about masks worn below the nose or even better down around the chin. Masks are really only partially effective and then it may only prevent disease transmission not receipt. Masks are ineffective in disease prevention if the other mucous membranes, eyes, ears - yes ears are not protected. The pore size on most masks is too big to effectively stop the virus from passing through anyway. I'll wear one if it becomes mandatory but nothing will replace physical distancing and frequent handwashing for me as my primary line of defence.

Or...even more cringy.. when I see videos of people who are constantly touching the front of their ill fitting masks, and then they will pull them down completely to YELL at and shame other people in public aren't wearing masks but who are quietly minding their own business and keeping a safe distance from others. Who is actually the one more likely to infect who with this absurd behaviour?

Covid seems to be driving some people absolutely nutty...

Actually in the grocery store, wear gloves that way you can touch and feel the food and not worry. Just take them off at the cash register/outside.
Wash all veggies and fruits when home.
The problem with masks is they don't fit well for size of mask to size of face. Even the ones with metal strips to form over your nose sometimes don't work that great. If you wear glasses, just a tiny part not sealed to nose bridge will fog the your glasses.

I feel more comfortable shopping at T&T, where everyone is wearing a mask, than Walmart where not everyone is wearing masks.Maybe its a psychological thing, but when you see everyone wearing a mask you feel like you should wear one without feeling like people are looking at you. On the other hand, you feel ridiculous if you are the only one wearing a mask in a group.
Agreed with all the above comments of using and handling masks inappropriately, like around your neck, just covering the mouth, touching/readjusting the mask freaquently, etc. I like the one where people hang the mask on one ear.
Masks are just an addition to the other safety measures.Masks alone will not do the trick.
Cheers and stay safe.

I've noticed an increasing number of people wearing masks while driving, alone in their vehicles. Which seems... odd...?

The George Costanza line seems apt for times like these.

I can offer an explanation there. You aren't supposed to touch the mask or your face with "contaminated" hands. If you're coming back from somewhere you may be waiting to wash your hands before removing the mask (and washing again after, potentially), since you have to touch your face to do so.

Yes. I keep a pump bottle of hand sanitizer in the coffee cupbholder of my car and re-sanitize before taking the mask off.

Masks should be worn in public, but they are not the issue, stupidity and disrespect are the issue. The spike can almost exclusively be linked to the young people partying in Kelowna, for Canada Day celebrations, contracting Covid and then going home to spread it throughout the province.

35 COVID-19 infections linked to Kelowna parties around Canada Day

27 cases of COVID-19 now linked to Kelowna, B.C., exposures

and the cases are growing!

Then add this from yesterday:

3rd Beach Drum Circle

No social distancing and no masks.

You can wear masks until hell freezes over. However, if young people don't get the message, it may all be for naught!

here are your provinces stats

if you really think they are worth worrying about, you need to take some remedial math classes

look at Sweden, where they don't wear masks, even since the start, look at their numbers, flatlined

lockdown, then re-opening, it was already predicted that numbers would go back up again

but again, they still aren't anywhere near the peak from a couple of months ago, yeah, a couple of months

just go look at the number for hospitalized, the total, since Jan

if you shit your depends over that kind of stat

how the fuck do you get out of bed in the morning being so scared shitless?

Yeah, I wonder that indeed. Given the knowledge that BC has 5.1 million people, at 100 cases a day, it would take 140 years for every British Columbian to get the covid virus... assuming we don’t grow in population at all.

And for those who love masks : CE10D6D0-055E-4EE1-AF24-700CDF658844.jpeg

they put out a stat the other day, BC said it found only around a 0.005% of blood samples had antibodies

the Fed one, by the Blood Services, found barely 1%

Sweden, saw a reporter from the states say they chose a "abnormal" way of dealing with this, lol

no, they did what humans have been doing forever, locking everyone down is the abnormal way

there is no vaccine that's going to save us, even if they get one next year, they won't be able to produce it fast enough for

all the irrational emotional cripples out there to get it fast enough

rational logical thought went out the window months ago

we're being lead by incompetents

we have been since January

anyone else but gov't, they would have been punted long ago

I endorse this post. However, the use of the term “Punted” is unfortunate IMHO.

So about 17 million have tested positive for Covid worldwide. Add a factor that 5X are asymptomatic (I'm being very generous here), that is approx 85 million people worldwide could possibly have Covid 19. Now take world population at 7 billion. That is about 1.2% of the world's population infected in less than a year. 1919 Influenza outbreak killed 24 million people.

Sooner or later you will come into contact with it. Keeping the curve flat is so that hospitals are not overrun and there are ventilators for everyone, that has to be hospitalized.

For the first 6 months of this covid 19; doctors were trying to understand it, and learn about it. We know more now, despite the panic at the beginning. Things have smoothed out. The economy is trash, but food is getting to the table and rent is being paid. We are getting by, barely... but are surviving.

Eventually with the next year or 18 months a flu-shot could be available. A flu-shot taken to the population in stages; and isolating when getting a flu shot should minimize effects.

Schools and playgrounds for kids are breeding grounds for colds/flues in the best of times. Putting kids back into school with out a flu shot is just asking for an increase in cases before a universal counter-measure can be deployed.

Its a waiting game.

Now I gonna tell you some BS. If you think your levels of goverment are prepared for anything (earthquake, floods, the walking dead, etc), if it affects the country from east to west (or other way around), Canada is very unprepared for anything of that size/magnitude. It has depended that the rest of Canada could respond to local disaster when called for.
Mostly because of budget cuts over the last 25 years, and the phase out of storage facillities to hold large quantities of supplies (even loss of small supply warehouses due to cost of heating in the winter); supplies have dwindled over the years. Does Canada have the fabled biblical seven year supply to feed all its population?
