Starting to hear this term out of the EU and likely places like Taiwan and Singapore. When do will they appear? Trudeau said today WHO has even verified post positive immunity. So then what? Passport gets a Govt issued Federally tested COVID-19 travel visa? Thoughts...

This should be on the Covid sub forum but such passports will have to wait for reliable and better understood antibody tests.

What I see is our Prime Minister stating that there is NO science at this point verifying post-positive immunity, the exact opposite of what the OP is asserting.

This thread should be removed, it is completely fake news and is dangerous misinformation!

Both WHO and the federal government have said the exact opposite of what the poster suggests - immunity passports should not be used because there is no conclusive evidence that a person who has recovered from Covid-19 develops immunity to a future exposure to the corona virus.

It's true that immunity to covid-19 is a work in progress but that is only because it's only been around for a few months. There is no reason to expect it would be significantly different from any other corona virus infection. If you have enough antibodies in your system you are more or less immune. Medicine isn't like math. The answers cover a broad range.

No! Trudeau didn't say that and neither did the WHO.

Exact quote: "There is currently no evidence that people who have recovered from COVID-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection."
"At this point in the pandemic, there is not enough evidence about the effectiveness of antibody-mediated immunity to guarantee the accuracy of an “immunity passport” or “risk-free certificate.” "

The science of Covid-19 is just beginning.
There are very few certainties right now. Stop demanding them.

COVID is a coronavirus and just like the flu, has multiple types. Having survived one does not confer immunity to another strain.

That of course depends on how different the two strains are. We already have a hundred or so strains of SARS-CoV-2 but it is being assumed they all work the same. It would be better to say:

Having survived one does not necessarily confer immunity to another strain.

If you are wondering how likely it is that recovering from covid-19 will leave you immune to reinfection think about all the hope and faith being placed in the development of a vaccine.

Vaccination and infection work the same way in terms of providing immunity. If there is any difference infection is likely to be more effective than vaccination for those who survive.

If there is no immunity after recovery from covid-19 then there will be no protection provided by vaccination.
