I didn't catch it and I read it just now.

I am an immigrant myself so may be I feel differently. Pointing at someone's origin just because he/she is not wearing a poppy is plain inappropriate. I always wear one proudly. Something happened to me many years ago. I didn't have one on simply because it was on another jacket. I struck a conversation with someone standing in front of me while waiting in a line for someone. Slowly it turned to my place of origin. All of a sudden he asked me why I wasn't wearing a poppy and I told him the reason. He smirked, rolled his eyes and stopped the conversation that we were having before the subject of poppies came up. I felt embarrassed and a bit hurt.

Coincidentally I was in a supermarket last week. Me and my kids were wearing our poppies proudly. One of my kids asked me how come not everyone was wearing one. I looked around and many of the people who were not wearing poppies were NOT of visible minorities.

Also what defines an immigrant? I could be wrong, but Mr Cherry seems to classify a non-white person as an immigrant. Firstly, to point out a person of color as an immigrant is judgmental. Secondly, just wearing or not wearing a poppy doesn't make one more or less patriotic.

But then we are talking about Don Cherry. I don't have time for him anyways.

Both of my parents are immigrants, both wore the poppy, in fact they would even keep extras around, and wouldn't let me leave the house without wearing it. This weekend I saw less Europeans wearing poppies than non-Europeans. When I was at various stores this weekend for different errands I had to run it was mostly Indo-Canadian kids and Asian kids in cadet uniforms selling them at the doors of these various businesses. Fuck Don Cherry!

Good riddance. He had a schtick and it ended.

Apparently the Broadcasting Standards got so many complaints that they could not even process them. It has pleaded people to stop complaining (now THAT sounds like a govt office).

It's not some joyful time of celebration, clearly, yet a lot of the government offices and such are closed, so for that latter part, they do not know what else to call it.

Remembrance Day is a statutory holiday in BC.
Holiday = holy day.

I stopped listening to Don Cherry 15 years ago, I found his act getting old and tiring. That being said, if you don't like his comments, turn the television off.

I support Don Cherry, he stands up for Canada and its military. What he says might be unpopular to some but he voices what others are reluctant to say.

Don Cherry should have consulted with Justin Trudeau. Maybe if Don had done it in brown or black face, he may have gotten away with it.

I would respect him a bit more if he’s going to say stuff like that if he actually served in the military. Like say, during the Korean War.
