I am curious why the parents of this very disturbed child are not charged with child neglect, or abuse.

The fact such a psychologically fragile child has been thrust onto the world stage as a poster child of climate change, voicing what she delusionally imagines will happen, namely the end of the world in the next few years, is nothing short of criminal.

Most scientists may believe that climate change is harmfull, and we should do something about it, but they don't speak in absolute terms like this obssessed, fearful girl.

She's just the flipside of the delusional deniers. At least she has the excuse of not being an allegedly fully matured adult.

I say we start ignoring all of them and listen to scientists about science. Radical, I know.

You must have been watching Fox News last night. Seems you’re parroting the same vile message.

I don't watch Fox News (or CNN, for that matter. They are each propaganda arms for Republicans and Democrats).

If you don't know abut her psychological disorders, you should find out. She is a very troubled young person. Doesn't make her message wrong, just intensified to the point of being illogical.

This is actually a very well-reasoned column about her, the message and one of the main targets of climate change, Trump...https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...queen-Trump-stop-mocking-start-listening.html

If memory serves I remember watching a newsclip about her being "on the spectrum". In less politically correct times this would have been called autistic.

This child should be the postergirl for the integration of special needs children into mainstream society, not for climate change.

Oddly I find this to be calming. If climate change was really all that serious we would have intelligent women and men talking about facts, not children discussing their climate feelings.

I find it a sign of the times she’s constantly referred to as a “girl” and “child”. I have a handful of friends who were already married and/or had babies by 16 or 17. Perhaps not ideal, but we were all fully adults by 18 - working, driving, living on our own, in serious relationships. I’m a dinosaur I guess.

Having a baby at 16 doesn't make someone an adult. Or even mature.
They're still a child.
But then, we're living in a time when seven-year-olds get to decide their genders.

I watched her Trevor Noah interview; she's smarter and more mature than most adults.

This is really more about how the loopy right-wing media manipulates insecure, white, conservative males.

If you actually learned about climate change and what is actually happening and its consequences, you’d realize that she’s grounded in reality, a reality based on science. Delusion is exemplified by most comments in the Perb Lounge (and most humans, at least here in North America).

Grounded in reality? You think her rhetoric is normal?

She has Asperger syndrome, a form of autism, characterized by profound difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication.

It can cause those who have it to develop an ‘intense preoccupation with a narrow subject’ and ‘one-sided verbosity.’

People with Aspergers have feelings like pain and fear, and joy, but often experience them far more intensely than by those who don’t have it.

It would be hard even for her most ardent supporters to argue that Greta doesn’t currently have ‘an intense preoccupation with a narrow subject’ or that she displays a ‘one-sided verbosity’.

Or, indeed, that her constant highly emotional apocalyptic warnings that the world’s exploding into hell all around us, are not perhaps driven with abnormally enhanced fear and pain.

She's like the weirdo on the corner with a sign that says, "The end of the world is coming." Well, yeah it is, and we might be hastening it, but it's not happening in 18 months, or 5 years, or probably 30 years, unless a wall lands on the guy. She's useful as a tool, but it's exploitive to use someone like her, and she'll probably end up suicidal, and the left will cry, but they'll have created the martyr they crave.

Her “rhetoric” only seems abnormal because you (and most of society and the media) are deluded, so of course she seems insane. Secondly, your judgment of her message is clouded by your feelings about Asperger. Since when is preoccupation with a narrow subject a bad thing? I suppose it’s viewed negatively when its consequences infringe on your convenience and comfortable lifestyle.

On what basis do you claim that “the end of the world” isn’t happening in “5 years, or probably 30 years” time?

You nailed it Crookedmember. This girl is living rent free in the heads of right wing, insecure, white males. I find it hilarious how triggered she can make them. I hope she keeps going, it’s very entertaining to watch. They can’t argue her opinions on climate change, so they go after her personality or appearance. They are just following the lead of their dear leader DJT

For the most part I have no issue with your quoted post. But you assume in the very last part of your post that only "the left" will treat her as a martyr. The fight against global warming should not be a left or right thing. To paraphrase Sting, "the right love their children too", and generally have more to lose if the planet dies due to poor ministry on our part.

I was just thinking the same thing. Only someone watching Fox News could say something like that. Greta is no less alarmist than the scientists or any thinking, sentient human being. We are in crisis land and time for the deniers like apparently Cock Throppled to wake the fuck up.

Wow, you're a charmer aren't you? I applaud her 100%. It is young people like her that are going to, at least try, save the world from itself. Climate crises, the worst income inequality in history, a ridiculous gun epidemic in the US, etc etc. Keep watching FOX dude. They'll tell you everyone trying to improve the world is just an anti Trump agitator. Dream on.

Attacking someone’s physical or emotional deficiencies is so pathetic and weak. Who cares if she is mildly autistic. I personally know some amazingly accomplished and bright people who fall on the autism spectrum. If that’s all you got, you’ve lost already. Do better!!

She sees with child's eyes. Dreams of a better world. While the adults are stuck on jobs, and money and convenience..... So why would adults listen to a child?

The thing about truth is that it has a resonance.....

that's why we don't let them vote

dreams, they're nice

but, then there's reality

there are 5+ BILLION too many people on the planet for the environment to handle

most of them are in over populated China/Asia/India

unless you are going to keep them in poverty, cause there aren't the solutions to provide them with all the power/electricity/technology to live like fat Americans

it's basic math, exponential, diminishing returns, physics

we just aren't there, it's going to be decades

so you need to reduce the herd, which won't happen either

anything else is delusional/dream
