Hope everyone’s having an awesome week!

Can anyone recommend an app for iOS that allows you to do video calls WITHOUT and ability to record it. Or that at least let you know if it is being recorded.

Any guidance appreciated!

Thanks in advance, and wishing everyone the best of the best!

CA, any type of electronic media, sound or video, or email can be recorded. It might be encrypted, but encryption can be broken over time. As for Apps, apps can be hacked by persons on the other end to fool the app on your end.

An awesome movie to watch is the Imitation Game about the breaking of the German Enigma Code during WW2. In today research and development the computer scientists are working on quantum computing and light speed computers; once the bugs are worked out, the encryption your bank uses for you bank accounts will be obsolete..... Today it takes an inside person to have hacks or a well written back door in the programs they use... Yes I sound a little paranoid...

The big factor is how much you trust the person on the other end of the app, email etc.

Check your closet..:)
That is a tough one.....
On your end is easy....on the other end there are lots of way to record it without you knowing.

I only do video chat with family members.

Best of luck to find a way...if you do...let us know.

I would not do it as a civilian even. For all you know the video chat could be live streaming and there is not a thing you can do about it. Even sending a picture to an email or cell phone gives the recipient ownership. They can use your image however they see fit, no model release required.

Not sure if it’s possible but you could join one of those web cam sites and only do private showings.

What about web conference calling app like zoom? They also have a web version.

I am pretty sure they had a record button that I could see when the other person activated.

I am not that technical but how would they record?unless they pointed a camera at the screen?

It doesn't exist. It is always possible to use a second device to film the screen of the first one.

Thank you so much for your responses! That is along the lines of what I was thinking, but I hadn’t even thought about live streaming.

If anyone does figure out a way to do it, please either post here or send me a DM.

Once again, I really appreciate everyone taking their time to respond, and I hope you have a beautiful weekend!

May your spirit be filled with peace, your heart with love, and your body with health!

Personally I am using the Zoom app which is available to install on IOS . Using this application you can conduct online video chats with more than 10 people at the same time as well as the quality of video and sound on the personal hd quality. You can record the broadcasts and save them to your phone .Here https://zoomappdownload.com you can dowloand this app for free.

Zoom mentioned by Enjoythis5 has a feature where if you want to record a call, then it has a popup that asks for permission from the other participants on the call, so you would know if they are recording via Zoom. However, if they are using an external app or recording the screen, you wouldn't know.

Anonymous recording of any video you transmit is blindingly easy for any viewer, so a better route is to think about what you can control.

You are probably better off watermarking the image with a “do not record” and add a DCMA mention for good measure. This makes it easier to threaten legal action to order whatever host site the video is on. Another trick might be to anonymize the transmission so only the body is showing, no face, or vice versa, the face is showing but not the body. Controlling the quality is another route. So if you restrict the outgoing resolution by using a crappy streaming app with a poor connection, that reduces the quality of any recorded video on their end.

Using predominantly mobile apps will reduce the likelihood of recording, since most devices that are intended for streaming video only, they don’t have built-in record functions, and another separate recording app in the background is usually not possible for most non-tech savvy users. Predominantly streaming mobile apps such as Skype, Viber, FaceTime, WeChat, that don’t have inline recording options could be good choices. These all have desktop equivalents of course; which means another recording app can be run in the background to silently record.

Teleconferencing apps that have their own built-in recording features such as Zoom or WebEx that politely put a “record” indicator to let the broadcaster know the video is being recorded, but again, that is easily defeated by using a background screen capture app to do a screen recording.

Also, pick an app that is bi-directional so their image is displayed to you while your image is transmitting. This at least gives you more ammunition to use the person’s face as a deterrent should they misuse your image.
