one year sober!

As one who knows; congrats. It's H U G E. I learned a lot about myself & my demons in the 17 years I was sober. It taught me a lot.
I am no longer in active recovery; hardline Big Bookers would say I'm in active addiction. I prefer to frame it as I am aware of which demons I choose to feed, & I know that there is a point at which the 'fuck it' switch gets thrown, so I choose to limit how often & how much. Once that switch is thrown? I become much too Irish to drink politely. I'm nobody's inspiration: the very thought makes my impostor syndrome itch! My very first sponsor's first sponsor used to say: the one who woke up earliest had the most time sober, because all that anyone gets is one day at a time. I woke up at 4:15 am: how about everyone else? ;D
5 :15 am.......you need to arm wrestle that one demon if your choosing to feed it?
I'm right here , just like you where for me in my darkest hour.
One thing about those Armies of Demons...they fall down ,when the truth is put in front of them.
That demon is the $1100 clutch that wiped out my savings account & the $1000 in bills I have due this week...his twin is the lowball offers, 'trades for side' (!!!!!)* & solicitations of free sex, requests for bareback full service, that are currently a plague on my house. Frankly, I can't wait to go back to Calgary.
For those not familiar: 'side' is cheap dirty back alley methamphetamine. It's rampant in Nanaimo.
That plague hasn't hit Calgary yet......too many Cowboy hats, scaring away the Ass Hats.
Although "trades for side " over there may mean a " side of beef "
Congratulations!!! I rarely drink anymore. It was starting to get the better of me when I was younger and I have family that are alcoholics with devastating results.
I hard a hard time stopping as it seems to be a staple for so many in social situations. I ended up having to quit a few sports teams and restructure my group of friends.
Fortunately, I have no problems today and can enjoy a glass of wine on special occasions or a cold beer a couple of times in the summer. Just lucky I suppose.
