Not sure if it is the the long cold winters, seasonal affective disorder, or something else but I sure get drained of energy and lack motivation this time of year. Curious if anyone has any advice on ways to break out of the blahs. Just feel like taking a nap all the time.

Vitamin D is wonderful for seasonal affective disorder! It makes such a huge difference and is readily available at any drugstore.

I take many Vitamins but yes, Vitamin D does help. I take Vitamin D3. I also find it tough this time of year to get energized for the most part.

I'm like some animals lol. I hibernate in cold down seasonal times. On a related note regarding sessions, I have much more interest when Spring / Summer time arrives. My mood and interest is much higher up then. :)

coming and licking my pussy would probably help ;) in all seriousness, sex does make me feel better! also the tanning salon, because pills & sad lamps just aren't enough lol

I get like that when I stay inside too long. Which had been necessary in the 'Peg as of late. I'm normally active outside during the winter with skating on outdoor rinks, cross country skiing, or even just regular walks outside help stave off seasonal affective disorder, and it will boost your energy. All Canadians should also be taking a regular dose of Vitamin D....doesn't matter what kind..D3..D...whatever. Ask your pharmacist, he will tell you they are essentially all the same. When my body is inactive for too long I get sore muscles all over and a huge lack of energy. I just get generally unhappy. Hal and Joanne knew what they were talking about all those years ago....ParticipACTION!!!! lol

Chocolate and sex release endorphins.

Chocolate and sex release endorphins.
I second that, and right after a run, or some tyoe of exercise to intensify it all. It works like a charm for me, Only I like the chocolate at the end. Preferably, real chocolate, or as real as it can come.

If I lounge around, the dark, drab of fall or winter, can get to me too much. If I stay busy, active, and spend time with friends and family more, it helps keep me up lifted. I also don't watch T.V, or surf social media sites, which I think can suck the engery out of people. I'm generally in and out as fast as possible when it comes to spending time looking at any type of screen, unless Im researching something & I try to make lemonade as much as possible out of the weather. I find Nature to be beautiful, so I get out in it. I force myself to go out in it now, rain or shine, or snow, which I'm not a fan of at all. Mud flaps were made for a reason, and so were rain suits. Bike riding can more fun in the rain sometimes.

I put a big dent in the couch myself this winter, seems to affect me every year, I do try to get something done every day but its not enough. Think I will try the vitamin therapy, good advice!

All really excellent advice.

Now, as a not doctor, I will remind everyone that not all low mood can be fixed with fresh air, sunshine & the endorphins from sex & chocolate. If it lasts longer than 6 weeks, you aren't just dealing with the blahs. If you're thinking about hurting yourself, or having thoughts of worthlessness & hopelessness, the best SAD light in the world won't help. Talk to someone. Start with a family friend. Then a family doctor. There should be no stigma attached to mood disorders: there is no shame in asking for help. Check out sicknotweak.org, founded by Michael Landsberg @heylandsberg on Twitter. It's OK to be not OK. Finding the right medication can be tough, but it can also be a Godsend.

Thanks: when I was in grad school, TBI/ABI psychiatric disorders were a focus of my research. One of the populations I was most interested to work with, too, because I have walked, & continue to walk that path. People with no experience don't realize how pervasive mood disorders can be & how they can affect every area of your life. Sleep, eating habits, hygiene, sex drive, memory, appetite, concentration...
