Why not just ask for the name and number of the wife/gf, then call them up and ask if he screws good enough to bother seeing him.
It's starting to sound about this ridiculous.

im looking to get a 2nd "burner" phone now. not interested in an app that my SO can see in my apps list or that might glitch up.

i still have my old cell phones with no sim cards in them. what is my cheapest and best option then? take an old phone to a provider and ask for a sim card and to go on pay-as-you-go? which cell provider should i choose, or does it matter?

just need basic calls and text for this phone of course. any specific advice is appreciated

If you are hiding it from a SO, you’re going to want an identical phone as your burner. Back when I started getting serious, I had 2 blackberry bold, both black, but similar wallpapers so you can tell which is which. Currently rocking 2 iPhone 8’s.
