Need I say more? I am sure some Trump supporters would applaud, but I suspect a lot of TV network executives are annoyed about the abuse of presidential power.

What abuse? Every presdient since the invention of television has been granted time to address the nation if he wants.

The only abuse seemed to be granting Schumer and Pelosi rebuttal time. Has that ever happend before other than in aa Q & A?

Exactly !!! There was no abuse of Power, no more than anything Obama tried and The Networks closed the door on his very similar approach back then to restricted immigration.
This was being talked about on CKND this afternoon.
Just more hype and spin by both sides, it's all never ending it seems ?
I never bothered to listen, can read about all the Wild accusations tomorrow ?
Everyone enjoy "the controversy", if so inclined ?

My thoughts are the networks are letting the President dig his grave deeper and deeper. If President Trump wants to have his name on something, he should build bridges, not walls...
The logic of stopping x number of refugees/immigrants into his country is frivolous compared to the cost of building the wall. The US government can't stop drug traffickers from crossing the US/Mexico border.
He is like a pit bull, once he has got his mind set around something, nothing will change his mind.
So what happens if the wall is built and there is a terrorist attack somewhere, the wall becomes a white elephant with Trumps name on it. Maybe then they could then engrave all the victims names on the wall- there will be lots of room.....

How is Donald Trump not worse on every single one of these points alone?

Considering #45 said Mexico would pay for the wall, the US would get billions and billions from Mexican duties and the Govt shutdown is all on him and he was taking full responsibility; that was just a political speech. RNC should be reimbursing the taxpayers for listening to more of his lies. Oval Office speeches are usually for something that is a true threat to the US not for trying to appease to his political base.

Bravo to the Dems for not giving in to the man child's tantrums.

Clearly there are a lot of people out there with Trump Derangement Syndrome to the point that all common sense goes out the window. Think about it, what is the first line of defense for screening people who want to come on to your property? A FENCE!!! Why would that be any different for a country? I am willing to bet that anyone against this probably has a fence and a good security system to protect their house. All presidents have talked about securing the borders. Trump is actually doing something about it.

The US definitely has a crisis that needs to be fixed...gun violence. From mass shootings to kids not being safe in schools.

Something exceptionally drastic may eventually happen for it to get addressed in some small way. There are bigger problems than the "illegals" that became a theme of fat boy's campaign and now his presidency.

Can't tell if you're being serious?

Just in case you are: a fence is not a significant line of defence. And has been said repeatedly by many people, the things he claims he's trying to deter come in via other means, typically via legal points of entry but by deceptive means (smuggling, overstaying visas, etc.). If money were to be spent on border security it would be more effective applied to other strategies.

Also, the phrase "Trump Derangement Syndrome" is so meta: something completely made up that is portrayed as some sort of authoritative defence against criticism. It's so typical Trump.

They're all liars and hypocrites. How does Chuck Shumer have the nerve to attack Trump when he gave this speech?...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdAyn89hFIo
Are you invoking the straw man argument that Democrats don't want border security or don't care about illegal immigration? They're just arguing that the wall is stupid and that Trump's strategies are ill-conceived and possibly inhumane.

1. A wall is a great way to stop invaders and deter illegal immigration. In Ming Dynasty, it worked perfectly fine keeping out the invaders - hundreds of thousands of them - Until the defending general decided to defect. When people say "it didn't work in China" or "it didn't work elsewhere" it's because they don't actually know the history of the Great Wall working. Multiple times. (I should also mention that it wasn't a "wall" but a series of towers at the beginning. It was later built into a wall because they really needed it. Material wealth of China attracted a lot of invaders and the wall helped keep at least 150 - 200 years of peace)>

2. While it will not fully stop illegal immigration it will certainly make it more difficult. Tunneling across the border is always another option.

3. Hiring people to hunt other people is never efficient. The paperwork, incarceration and logistics of deporting people costs $10,000+ per person over at ICE. This probably doesn't include justice costs and secondary costs associated with loss of human life.

4. It costs 5 Billion dollars to build a wall. The life time fiscal drain of these immigrants on the American economy will likely be in the hundreds of billions. With 12 Million illegal immigrants not paying tax dollars against jobs that would otherwise employ Americans... the cost is... well.

5. The problem with Democrats is that they are seeking votes rather than seeking reform. "Undocumented" is just a PC way of saying "illegal". This allows them to gain more Latino votes in future elections.

6. A lot of people are very adamant about choosing sides in a political argument rather than looking at the reality of the problem.

7. Those who know LA very well may or may not know about the 20,000 or so Latino Gang members who are mostly illegal immigrants. They commit a significant amount of crime.

On a few of your points:

1. There weren't airplanes in the Ming dynasty. Smuggling and illegal immigrants come in through legal ports of entry. Separate but related, there's also a reason castles fell out of fashion.

4. Where'd you get that number? The $5.6 billion Trump wants is just the current instalment.

6. Can't speak for others but I'm confident my position isn't one of party allegiance. Didn't care about Romney vs. Obama, but have recognised Trump as a conman with the intellectual depth of a 10 year old long before he got political.

7. As oft quoted, immigrants are less likely to commit crime than native born people.

Cut CT some slack. Seems to have some issues.

If the Dems were in favor of a 50 billion dollar solution to deal with illegal immigration that utilized modern day technology, Trump would turn it down.

The silly old man wants a physical structure that he could put his stamp on in a pathetic attempt to cement his legacy.

How he will be remembered has already been decided and history won't be kind.
