I'm not an SP, but I have nothing but trouble with Revenue Canada, and I keep meticulous records. My accountant has been arguing wth them for years. Every time we think things are sorted, they come back with something else. I end up sending them money and then re-claiming it all the next year, over and over.

Since being an escort is primarily a cash business, I was wondering if any SP's have ever been called by Revenue Canada to explain income, and how reasonable they are to reporting?

Do you really think they’re going to tell you their private financial information or how they run their business? Probably not!
Duh. I wasn't asking any such thing.

I was asking if any had been challenged by RevCan to explain income, and whether RC are accepting of most estimates?

No different than asking the same question of servers in restaurants, who I know sometimes are challenged.

Payers need to find friendly members of accounting/legal Firms that advise on-the-side .

I'm sure most of the experienced girls have something on the go, with respect to paying taxes.

CRA isn't too tough to deal with, so long as you stay of their radar. Once they've got you, though, there's no escape, as anyone who's acquainted with them knows.

Funfact: 80%+ of private citizen audits are performed upon those in the highest tax bracket. That may have changed, but that's how it was for many years, and I don't imagine that if it's changed, it's changed very much.

As a young man, I used to have to avoid Revenue Canada (as it was called at the time) much similar to how an SP would, I imagine; it was easy! I got a GST number, said I owned a consulting business, and claimed very little each year. The gov't never so much as spat near me. In contrast, now I'm a card-carrying member of the Good Citizen's Association, which is to say I run a straight business, employ some people, pay my taxes and do everything by the book, and behold! I'm always on the lookout for those sneaky bastards; they're out to get me, I swear it!

Bottom line: CRA is too busy harassing small business owners and high income workers to deal with people who earn their monies off-the-grid, so to speak; their malevolence is only rivaled by their incompetence.

Case in point from CBC Go Public last night. A federal government agency puts many thousands in a man's account when it shouldn't have. He informs them and sends the money back. Next, the government wants several thousand in tax for the money he received. He plays the game and pays the tax then applies for a refund but they repeatedly refuse until the Go Public show deals with it. All of a sudden the government finds a process that allows for the refund.

That is not true with CRA, they will go after anyone.... even the little man. I have a co-worker and he went bankrupt owing around $60k, CRA is going after anyone, the government needs money.

Many ways around things for sp’s and other alike - Put your money in a safety deposit box.... this way no trace of money. I knew one lady that did this and after she retired she got a job with a T4 and had a large bank roll of tax free money.

Years ago I was audited because forgot to collect PST a few times.

I also forgot to claim my rebates and tax-free allowances.

Long story short - after the audit, the province ended up owing me a few hundred.
