Most people don't laugh at Trump because there's something wrong with him - They laugh at him because they feel vindicated. They feel that if they can laugh at someone with more money, a bigger house, nicer cars, and sexier women in his life, they could justify all the mistakes and inevitable mediocrity of their own lives. It's the same mentality in jealousy - A profound sense of personal insecurity that your woman might run off with someone else and, in most cases, the woman eventually does.
There's a clear difference between "majority" and "correct". The majority used to believe that God wanted them to take back Constantinople from the Muslims, or that the Earth was flat, or that flies spawned spontaneously from food. The masses are often manipulated by the few who have their own agendae. Participating in the group-think mentality is a horrible way of finding some sort of compass in personal existence - That's how Communist purges and Fascist Holocaust started.
Whatever you wish to focus on regarding his antics and policies, and whatever good policies you choose to ignore in your pursuit to laugh and criticise him, are your own doing. But consider this - Because of his general non-interventionist policy in foreign affairs, he hasn't deposed a foreign leader, displaced millions in wars in which he shouldn't be involved, killed thousands in military strikes, or sent more American soldiers to their unnecessary deaths. However few people he griefs with his idiosyncrasies is well worth the fewer people who have died from American interventionist wars.
Canadians can't categorically pass judgement on American politcs because, despite the proximity and shared language, the cultures are completely different. We have a much smaller population, much more resources, and a less turbulent past to independence, all of which contribute to a fairer society and less competitive nature. It's because of this that we don't have polarizing leaders - neither dumbasses nor geniuses - like the Americans do.
