Bachelor of Arts and you write like this?

Nice try.
You'd be shocked at some of the documents I've received from a few Masters of Engineering clients. Technical writing is applied at all levels of Engineering schools and some take it more seriously than others.

My dad only had a grade 4 education, only knew how to spell and write his name. But man what an intelligent fellow. Good with his hands, good with his mind. Give him long enough and he could figure pretty much anything out. Him and my mom are my only true heroes.
Your parents should be proud for raising a kid that thinks like that. One of the bravest post I have ever read here. I have worked with men like your father and I know that you can ace a test or fill forms but a mind. Can't be given a grade or a level. Thanks for that post as it gives me hope for the rest.

How many of you completed a bachelors? Do you miss the college days?
Why are there more posts that say they have no bachelor degrees and just simply insinuating that a degree isn't the be all and end all. Yeah, that may be true but OP is just trying to reminisce, not at all dealing with everyone's insecurities.

i think the point you are trying to make is not made clearly enough.

intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills.

knowledge is facts, information, and skills acquired through experience (or education).

studying is one expression of what intelligent people seek, whether they seek it at university, or not.

intelligence shows itself as an ability to interact with others without prejudice or assumption.

in the end, curiosity trumps almost all.

My father and two of his pals got sent on a two week remedial writing course. He was in his sixties, PhD, published, did peer review.
He was so mad it was hilarious.

It's funny but I can see his point of being pissed.

It's not surprising to me since they know their own subject like the back of their hand yet are unable to articulate it in writing. Just like there are rules in chemistry or engineering; there's no difference with technical report writing to me.

Oh well, ive let it go. The university days were indeed very carefree, it would be hard to go back now. But if i coupd be that age again knowing what i know now, oh boy...

When I was in high school I was one of the smartest. Got a medal for being top student one year.
Then I go to university and EVERYONE was the smartest kid in their class. I went from being cocky to feeling like a moron.

There were kids who could grind their way through by studying and studying. They usually lasted until second year. Then there were ones like me who were good enough but nothing special. And then there were always a few who just "got it" right away. Some kids I still remember almost 40 years later, they were really brilliant. There were two guys in math class who must have had brains designed for math and abstract thought. Everyone else would be struggling and they could explain it without notes or blackboards, like they saw everything laid out in their imagination.

That was the biggest thing I got out of university, exposure to and respect for really smart people.
