I'm wondering if a Canadian wore something in the USA that was controversial with Americans how it would be received? Most likely something would be said to that person. Not quite like wearing another team's jersey to a Raiders game but close.

It goes both ways and the thing is that hat is symbolic of a lot of things that most Canadians are opposed to. That douche was clearly trying to express his US First Amendment in our Country and it's disrespectful to assume it's ok. Sorta like giving people the finger if they don't like it.

MAGA might be ok in all Red States but it sure is unpopular here.

You're presuming that he knows enough about the current situation between us and them and as unfortunately is the case with so many Americans re Canada he's more than likely completely ignorant.

Note however he left apparently without making a scene...he didnt scream. rant then threaten to get Trump to invade Canada and burn down the Teahouse plus he didnt pull a gun on the manager. There are positives.

As much as I hate this MAGA crap, I gotta side with the owners. The manager was their employee and was acting as a representative. What he does reflects on them. If it's their policy to tolerate this stuff and he didn't adhere to policy then he's doing damage to the company's reputation.

If a vegan was working at McDonald's and refused to serve burgers, they ought to be fired. Personal standards do not trump (ha) an employee's duties to their employer for which they are actually paid.

The owners wanted this guy's business. The manager did not abide by that.

I had an employee that drove away clients I wanted. I no longer have that employee.

I didn't presume anything.

I put out a different angle. That's all.

The rest of your stuff is overly dramatic.

We don't need those haters from America here. We have our own!

Somebody has to tell those pesky customers when their skirt is too short, or they wear a wrong hat, or they are willing to eat meat of defenseless animals.

Contrary to previously stated opinions I respectfully disagree. Its a fucking baseball cap with a slogan on it. Perhaps its obnoxious but its not illegal. Plus its not like the guy just asked him to remove it, he flat out refused him service.

And since when now do you have to hold or express the correct political opinions or not get served. Its opening a can of worms that should remain closed and gives the other side an opportunity to gleefully begin doing the same thing. Can service now be refused to a muslim wearing a hijab? or a Sikh with a turban because both of those types of headgear represent a belief system without being religious symbols which some may object to. Could a gas station owner now refuse to allow Kinder Morgan protester Canine Cowboy to buy gas..or put air in his bicycle tires when he shows up in his SAY NO TO PIPELINES hat? Are you guys sure you want to go down this slippery slope?
FUCK YEAH....you just hit it all and in a precise way.If you choose your job or it choose's you you SHUT YOUR MOUTH when it comes to dealing with the CLIENTS of your employer. The CLIENTS etc pay the money for the service etc.

I think Trump is a bit of an asshole....as for that asshat Trudeau well I wont go there. That being said I DO NOT conduct myself in my job/career BASED upon those opinions. The customer is always right and if the customer is wrong refer back to rule #1....the customer is always right.

"I think Trump is a bit of an asshole"

A BIT of an asshole? Trump is repugnant. And the whole MAGA thing is bullshit. America was pretty great under Obama, under Bush, under Clinton. Most presidents try to advance their country. Obama tried to bring the US into the 20th century and bring universal health care there. No luck. Remains the only western democracy without it which is unfathomable. MAGA is a bullshit mantra that really means Make America White Again, Make America Intolerant Again, Make America Xenophobic Again. It's more than a hat. It's a fascist, oppressive, hateful slogan. May as well wear KKK garb. I applaud the manager for doing what he did. I'm in the entertainment business and I would NEVER work with Trump Tower, no matter how lucrative.

Post of the day.
The MAGA idiots are out of touch with reality. They want it to be Leave it to Beaver, but the outside world has moved on.
The America of the fifties only existed because the rest of the world was devastated by WW2. America had an industrial powerhouse untouched by bombs.
Now the world has returned to its prewar state, with many countries manufacturing product equal to America.

The Teahouse depends on middle American tourists who have a few days before or after their cruise. Nobody goes there because it's a great restaurant. If they turned away these folks here or at the Sequioa Groups other shitty spots they would be shuttered.

lol, yeah he's a waste of skin

but so were the previous 3

Clinton started some of the fall, that lead to the collapse in 2008, he, as everybody now knows, is a piece of shit, it wasn't all Bush, Bush drove them into unbelievable debt, Obama, was all talk, look at what happened on his watch, his first act was to go apologize to the terrorists for hurting their feelings! it was pretty much nothing after that, Libya, Syria, Crimea, Ukraine, Russian, China south seas, he stood by with his thumb up his ass

the Americans haven't had a decent leader in decades

the joke president is just the worst in a long line, a product of the previous losers

just the worst yet, is all

they've hit rock bottom

whether they stay there or continue to fall is the only ?

The US financial system collapse was started with deregulation in the Reagan admin. It wasn't the huge debt load but primarily the junk bonds and shitty mortgages supported by the ten largest banks in America. They got rich and greedy on the way to almost tanking America's banking system.

Subsequent administrations from Bush Sr to Clinton turned a blind eye to the warning signs. The collapse happened on Geo W Bush watch.

Obama was left with the cleanup in Jan 2008.

What was Obama supposed to do when Russia annexed Crimea? Start a war with Russia? If you are gonna dance with the Russian Bear, it better be worth fighting for like an incursion into our part of the globe.

Probably the closest thing to the truth:

The management sided with their major source of revenue, and that means swallowing the customers' boorishness sometimes.

The management sided with their only source of revenue - the customers. It's not fair to assume the management had a political bias.

Their employee overstepped his authority to discriminate against a category of people he hated. Ironically, Trump is known for the same type of behaviour.
Another similarity is the lack of self-reflection: "Hodge, however, has denied that he refused service. He merely refused to do this as long as the customer was wearing the hat in the restaurant."

Trump is a POS.

People always love freedom of speech when people are agreeing with them. The MAGA movement is horrible, but it's members think of themselves as victims. This type of reaction only makes them stronger.

Wonder where Hodge is working now ? With the shortage of workers in this industry he probably has a better paying position already......
