I'm new here. I noticed that most SPs want to confirm your identify before a booking. Is it normal to be completely honest and give your real name, etc? Sorry if this is a weird question, but I just wanted to confirm before doing so. What are the real risks here?

It's not common in Canada to require your real name. It's different in the US where providing sexual services is a crime, so SPs have more reasons to be careful.
Many SPs won't need anything from you other than a phone number / email and a name you chose to use.

You can assume most SPs will have no interest in misusing your info, but a breach can occur. Such as: an (ex) SP published her client list; an SP sent a mass email to her whole contact list by mistake so that you could see other contacts; an SP shared her phone with another SP who then shared the info with another client.
Some extortion cases were reported as well. Even if you completely trust the SP, the info on her side can be lost or stolen by hackers, etc.
Social media and Google can be used to check you further by your name / phone number.

You should think what happens if your friends/family/employer find out about your activities. If you care about that, it can be wiser to use a pseudonym and a separate burner phone.

Well said Felix, one other bit of very valuable info is NEVER, EVER divulge your dentity aka your handle here on perb
to any SP whatsoever. It can lead to a very slippery slope.

I respectfully disagree on that one. Never felt the urge to tell everybody my forum handle, but never saw it as a danger to my real life either.
Some guys value the unpaid "mystery shopper" role and that's fine. I don't see a benefit for me of being that 'cloak and dagger'.

If (and that's not often) a well known SP requires either references or a forum handle for screening, I share the forum handle to save the effort with references.
Also I don't want the extra effort of making my reviews so generic the SP cannot possibly recognize me. If some of them recognize you, your forum identity can leak anyway as a part of security checks between SPs. It should be ok as long as your real life identity is protected.

There's obviously a benefit of sharing the forum handle with SPs you like, it allows for a better bond on PERB or social media.

Or just deal with an "agency". They don't give the number to the girl. It's a little bit safer than giving your # to a girl you never met and don't know anything about or what she might have in mind.

So, what's the best way to get a "burner" phone ?

I suppose that's why they call it a two way street. For those points you make above are exactly
my reasons for not sharing my identity to an SP. To easy to be outted via social media.
I respect your reasons for thinking so felix but for ME personaly they would not work in my ideals.

My biggest reason of all is they would have your phone number to share and they know what you look like.
Therefore IMO they don't need more info like my perb handle to use as well. Just my feelings about anonymity
my man and I will stick to them for safety because you never know what can go on behind closed doors and
its better to be safe than sorry.

Going back over the years there have been a few pooners who have been outted
on this board and had to have their handles and all posts deleted to protect themselves further because
somebody simply put two and two together and it was not a pleasant experience.
I know of two fellas personally who had that happen. They never divulged their handle to any SP's
but cloak and dagger tactics plus social media caused their ruin.
I just don't want to ever become one of those statistics and will do all I can to keep it from happening.

So in retrospect felix I think you better reread what you wrote in post #2 of yours.
Those were GREAT points my man that you made on this subject and I hate to say this,
but it seems to contradict what you said in post #4 that you made.
Like they say guys, "Be safe out there", and Cyphere I hope you take this info and
use it.

Just some food for thought from my point of view.

Good point about burner phones. I think I'll get me one.

The cheapest unlocked phones you can get are via aliexpress.
Then get a SIM and airtime from 7-11.
Total cost about $60.
Thanks for the info. But won't they check your ID and want to get your info at the 7-11? Can you just walk in and get a number just like you're buying a candy bar and leave the store? I've never used these things and I'd be surprised if that's the case and I wonder how long it will be before they change this.

Still lost in the '60s
I ordered mine online.
Just needed an email address and a shipping address, but it's very cut and dried.

You said yourself, it was not because of sharing their handle with an SP.
Revealing too much information on the forum got people in trouble. Of course it would. I'm rather paranoid with it. Even by reading all my posts, good luck figuring any of my: age, race, height, weight, profession, family status, location, etc.

I'm all for protecting the personal information such as: full real name, personal phone number and email address. And generally, anything that can be used to look up your real social media profiles. If you protect those and don't overshare on PERB, the handle does not create any extra danger.

Unless anything changed recently, you can walk into a 7-11 and buy a SIM card for cash. Then you register the SIM card online, for which you don't need any real name or address.
This is good enough, assuming the phone is not for hiding some serious crimes from the police.

Okay maybe you slightly misunderstood me about the sharing of the handle. No they did not
share their handle with an SP but that was not the reason either for their downfall, there are
other scenarios at play that can out people on review boards besides having an SP know
your handle. That is what I'm talking about here.
Whether it had to do with an SP or not is here nor there. So you know, why take a chance divulging
your handle to an SP or ANYONE for that matter. It just isn't worth it man and "could" come back
to bite you in the ass.

It did not involve an SP. But you can imagine if it did involve an SP that divulging their handle possibly could have
made it easier for the downfall if an SP was involved and could create havoc for her also.
If the divulging your handle does not create any extra danger, what happens then if
an extortion scenario came about or outting you to your workplace or family or whatever?
Sure they may not be able to make the connection to you personally
but who the hell needs that kind of attention to begin with.

I'll stand by my reasons for not divulging my handle on perb to anyone and if you feel safe to divulge yours to an sp?
That's completely your business. Just like I said before, food for thought amigo.

Maybe I'm being overly paranoid but seeing two friends fall hard because of it gave me enough to go on with
keeping my anonymity just that. Anonymous, and isn't that why we have these goofy handles for in the first place?

My last thought is, don't take the chance. Is it really worth it if it all goes south unexpectedly and you know that old
saying bro. Expect the unexpected. Or if you will murphy's law. What can go wrong, will go wrong.

Cheers all!
