An unusual amount of highly suspicious cellphone activity in the Washington, D.C., region is fueling concerns that a rogue entity is surveying the communications of numerous individuals, likely including U.S. government officials and foreign diplomats, according to documents viewed by the Washington Free Beacon and conversations with security insiders.............

In other tin foil hat news, this site is now no longer hosted on US soil. They've moved it to the Netherlands. You're pooning activities are no longer the watchful guard of Homeland Security.

"Tin Hat" should properly be referred to as "Aluminum Foil Hat" ;>) just saying. FEVY is an arrangement amongst the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand whereby our governments get around privacy regulations by having another Nation spy on their citizens. There is no such thing as privacy on the Internet, not even behind a TOR router chain. Being prosecuted is governed by severity, ability to arrest and the politics of being seen to be "doing something about it". If a keyword search finds a keyword or keyword chain that is in the database in any language, you will be found inside of a day. And no, I won't be typing a keyword chain that will get them all excited and after my ass.

I think you're referring to FVEY (Five Eyes)(Aussie, Canadian, New Z, UK and US)? Yes, the agreement is for say the USA to have Canada spy in its citizens & share the information thereby not breaking the Constitution. I'm more intrigued by the potential of Russian interference in the United States.

As for Tor, no, I wouldn't view it as safe especially for people using Windows computers. I would view it as safe if you use TAILS and you're not connecting to your home network. This assumes you purchased the system cash and used.

At least with Russia and China they openly spy on everybody, citizen - non-citizen alike. Western Nations write laws that prohibit spying on their citizens, and then find ways around those laws.

If it goes through a Satellite or Cable, it's passing through several server farms that are running keyword searches. Russia and China have found it valuable to create "false news" and use the media to impact politics and public policy. If we had a responsible media that actually required verification by multiple sources, the Russians wouldn't have been as effective during the last US election. As it is, they got themselves a weak, flawed President that has some links to shady financial deals and shady business. Trump will be impeached before the end of this year and the Tea Party will have their President with Mike Pence. It will be interesting to see who is appointed as Vice President by Mike Pence. Yes, he does have to pass the appointment through a Republican House and Senate. Somehow, I'm not seeing that as difficult seeing as how the majority of elected Republicans were elected by the Tea Party movement.

There is constant debate in the hacker community on whether the Russians assisted Trump. I think the Russians played a part and I think Wikileaks did at least in the sense of a coordinated attack on the Democratic party. I used to be an Assange supporter, now I see the guy as another fucking shill with an agenda. Hacker ethos = the truth and agenda's and shill don't mix well.

As US Military hacker The Jester once said, Trump is pliable. Trump never seems to attack Russia, but since when are the Ruskies our allies? Perhaps they were friends in the post Gorbachev years but Putin is as predictable as they come. I believe Trump leans heavily on the #FakeNews shit because when the truth comes out he'll use the #FakeNews shit to try to deflect who he really is. I used to watch House of Cards and Homeland and think "good drama". Lately it seems like life is imitating art. I can't wait for Mr Robot this year.

And I agree with you on Pence. It won't be some pissed off Hispance or black dude that pops Trump. It'll be his own people. You dig into the whole Reagan shooting and there are some real bizarre claims about that. In the regular world (wher we live) I think sometimes things happen for no reason. In politics I don't feel that way.

And the Russians are good hackers. The Chinese APT's are politically driven. The Russians are monetarily driven. Two different worlds.

Only 8 weeks into Trumpland and the chaos never stops. Small hands Drumpf will be impeached. His spot in US history is already assured.
I think Reps will misfire badly this year and next, and will get some of their own shit thrown back at them.
Most interesting will be the 2018 mid-terms, if the Dems can pull a reverse and gain enough in the House and Senate. Everything is at stake next November.

I was no fan of Clinton and I personally hoped Bernie Sanders would actually win the nomination. It was the best of the worst. When Trump won I figured "OK, let's watch the shit show" happen. I figured it would start with a few stupid decisions and then "Republicanism" would set in. Only it didn't.

I'm a "technical person" with a skill set that is rare in the world. I watched the whole "Muslim Ban" thing go down and thought WTF. It was like a scorched earth policy. The public goal of turfing "bad people" ended up tossing some of the smartest technical people in the country. In case Trump missed it the ONLY sector of the economy flourishing in the USA is the tech sector. And here was Trump turfing these math wizards, guys SO rare, they have to import them. And, then there is the vacation factor. Who the fuck is going to go to the USA? I attend Defcon every year. I will not this year.

McCain and Graham already have the impeachment motion written. Trump has no friends, not even his wife and children are his friends.

McCain and Graham are the Republicans that initially paid for the report on Trump's dealings in Russia. When the report didn't have enough verified facts, they sent what they had to the Democrats. Their Agent continued to be unable to provide verified facts, so "brown envelopes" started to land in the mailboxes of the media. The reality is that Putin has the facts and will provide them when it will do the most damage to the USA. Putin will love having the Tea Party gaining control of the Executive, House and Senate. As pointed out in this article, the Tea Party wants to weaken the power of the Federal Government. https://www.theglobalist.com/the-bolshevik-roots-of-the-u-s-tea-party/ Since the Kochs are the main funding source for the Tea Party, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the end game is to restrict the ability of the Federal Government to tax or spend. The largest line item in the US budget is the US Military.

A weakened US Military is the goal of the Russians and the Chinese. Putin wants to rebuild the USSR and China wants the South China Sea. Pence won't go to war with either country. The Ukraine and Taiwan will be hung out like a ripe apple for the plucking. "Peace in our time" as Chamberlain put it as he allowed Hitler to pluck Czechoslovakia.

With you on that. Definitely passing on my various conferences this year. Plus there's already talk of a brain drain. I had people sending me resumes the day after the election.

The funny thing I see though are the news reports about illegal border crossings being down... crossings into the US maybe but they sound way up in the other direction.

You should turn on your PM's man. I'd like to "update" you on certain things you've mentioned (SP's posting client names for example).

As for Russia, Trump IS pliable. And Putin knows it. The Trump camp is quick to declare anyone questioning them as a "Hillary" supporter. Thing is, that's not me. I'm a hacker, I dislike all politicians. The game is all smoke and mirrors, deflect anyone that asks questions. Accuse them of being Hillary supporters. It's entirely predictable.

I rarely pay attention to politics in my job. yet I do. Only recently have I become "alarmed" at things.

Trump doesn't have a clue about anything outside of Real Estate. Mike Pence does know politics and where money is more effectively spent to keep the Tea Party Republicans in control. The National Post actually has an article up this morning on what the Administration has done to establish lines of communication with Russia.
http://news.nationalpost.com/full-c...tin-are-rebuilding-a-mighty-military-alliance

The removal of Iran from the table in Syrian talks is not a bad thing. But, there is a cost. Implicit in the new rapport between the USA and Russia is the thought that the Crimea is Russian and always has been. The territory given Ukraine by Khruschev in 1947 will be returned to Russia and Poland and Ukraine will be returned to being a landlocked and powerless nation. Nobody wants to spill their nation's blood for Ukraine's corrupt politicians. The same applies to Taiwan. Taiwan has consumed tremendous amounts of US Military spending so that their politicians and their population of 23 million can maintain their corrupt system. That US Military spending can be better used elsewhere and will be. Taiwan's value started to diminish when Nixon instituted "Ping Pong" diplomacy and is now gone with the financial and diplomatic arrangements between the USA and China.

Obama had already decided that Israel's constant foment in the MidEast was too expensive for the USA and I expect that Israel will have to accept the lack of US Aircraft Carriers in the Mediterranean. Rand Paul made it clear in 2013 what the Tea Party's stance on Israel is.

The days of powerful nations supporting pissant, corrupt governments is coming to an end. It's become too expensive.

I read that article in the National Post a day or two ago and immediately began to wonder if it was written by Russian disinformation specialists.

Order for succession of president is firstly the elected vice-president who selects a new non-elected vice-president.
The last occurrence was Gerald Ford & Nelson Rockefeller when Nixon resigned.

Subsequently if the elected VP (now the new POTUS) gets demised, then the next elected official in line is the House Speaker, currently Paul Ryan.
So, Mr. Ryan, who ran in 2012 as a failed VP candidate, gets to be POTUS if something happens to both of Trump and Pence.

The third elected official in line is the Senate president pro tempore, selected by members of the Senate and currently Orin Hatch..

Then the line goes into unelected Administrative Officials such as the Secretary of State Tillerson.

It does go on and on from there.

My job requires natural paranoia as one of the "must haves". And I think a lot about building a cabin on Bowen or Gambier Island and falling off the grid. As for what happens to an impeached president, I think Pence would replace him? I think they have to put the impeachment process through the House and Congress, etc.

This is like a real "House of Cards Reality" TV show.

A news headline in the not too distant future - "You're Fired!"

If Trump is impeached by Congress, Pence immediately becomes President. He then submits his nominee for Vice-President to Congress for approval. Before Lyndon Johnson, there was no method of selecting a replacement Vice-President if the current Vice-President became President.

Politics is all about power & control. If anyone will have Trump impeached it will be the GOP themselves. The last thing they will do is let Trump continue on this never ending cluster fuck and then destroy the party. All the Democrats need is a solid trustworthy leader and they'll send the GOP to the political wilderness. As much of a cluster fuck as this is, I admit to enjoying some of it in the whole "car crash at the side of the road" thing. It's almost breathtaking to what this happen in real life & in real time. Sometimes I shake my head and think "this isn't a TV show, it's real life".

Trump is distracting us, including the media, with stupid shit. Meanwhile, his legislative agenda is moving ahead, full speed, but receiving less attention and analysis than it should. Maybe he does stupid stuff because he's stupid, or maybe he does it to entertain the plebes so he can get stuff done while we're all looking the other way.
