I think we need to take this thread public.

I get your dislike of the RCMP. It's not hard to feel that way given the failures of the system for so many women. There are books written on the topic. And if you think I don't understand the topic consider this; my current and my previous SO could have easily become a victim. Do you think I'm not aware of that? Do you even imagine as a politically correct pooner who supports the "woman" you can even imagine that? You may well respect and like your "sex worker". I don't have an issue with that. I wish more men would do it. But my woman was/is a sex worker. And she could have ended up "on the farm". Do you imagine I think about that when I look at her? You wonder where all this "hacker" shit comes from? And what motivates me?

So what's your part in this. An observer or...

Stop being interested in the right/wrong shit. Think for yourself. Don't be an armchair general. Stand up for what is right. Even if you stand alone.

Of more concern is the RCMP's institutional Misogyny towards it's own female members, the wives and girlfriends of it's male members and civilian women that the RCMP comes into contact with.

You refer to scared little boys abusing their authority because the RCMP is poorly trained, poorly vetted people that can be EXPECTED to be an embarrassment to Canada when compared to other Nation's national police forces. The Government tried to "Solve" the problem years ago by splitting CSIS away from the RCMP. What the government remains reluctant to do is disband the RCMP. The Conservatives tried new leadership. That also failed because anyone that has gone through RCMP Depot is already ruined as a functional police officer. The Institutional Bias is ingrained too deeply.

I was thoroughly bashed for expressing positive sentiments about law enforcement when I first joined the boards.

I've gotta say that even after 12 years in the industry, I still haven't had a single negative experience with VPD, RCMP or other police services. They all expressed their appreciation of my knowledge and ability to articulate what was happening on industry forums.

I know there's lots of corruption, but I also understand how impossible their jobs are, and therefore will do everything I can to help when they're investigating industry issues. I've thought about offering my services as an industry expert to them, and as an expert witness in court.

I don't think they need to disband the RCMP but I believe a complete shakeup in the ranks would help. They do have a serious misogyny problem which was apparent with the class action lawsuit. Unfortunately they solved out of court and I suspect that's to keep the spotlight off them. The truth is they need the spotlight on them.

Personally I think what needs to be done is to redefine the role of what police do & change the training. If we expect police to just be "enforcers" of the law then we'll continue to have the issues we do. They need more training and the ability to be "social workers" to a degree. Whenever you get a group of people who work together in a tough situation you're going to build a brotherhood. Look at the military. During basic training you are broken down and "rebuilt" as a member of a team not an individual. And, admittedly sometimes you need that brotherhood especially police/military in tense situations. The safety of your brothers requires stand your post or you're buddy is going to be shoveled in a sack.

I think the real problem is the debate is an either or thing. There seems to be two factions and nothing in between. I guess I see it differently because I was exposed too it. I can acknowledge the problems but I can also defend the troops on ground. The Force is having recruiting issues. I think inherently police officers sign up to do the right thing. It's the ecosystem that destroys them. Regardless, I have some respect for those who wear uniforms with a rank especially soldiers.

I know a lady who is head of HR for a city. By virtue of that, she sits in on interviews for their police college. The applicants all want to help people....and carry weapons.

I've heard it's the corrections officers who get into it so they can be a tough guy and abuse the inmates they're guarding.
