I posted this as a reply in the PSA section to a situation where a SP's personal profile was displayed in a "People You May Know" email from Facebook. A warning to both clients and SP's.

Someone who only had my phone number only (not email) showed up on a "People You May Know" email from Facebook to me. My guess is that the facebook app on her phone grabbed her phone contact list and connected us through my phone number. I don't have the Facebook app. If you want privacy, don't give FB your phone number. I have deleted it from my FB profile. You shouldn't run personal apps that have access to your contact list with your business phone if you are a SP.

I have noted this as well and I find it extremely invasive and unethical. The way it came about with me was through contacting girls on the Seeking Arrangement site. We'd chat or text and then two or three weeks later I'd get a push from FB with her personal profile (real name etc.). I try to let the girls know that as I would never intrude or impose on them but I don't think people realize FB does this. It's bad - like an "auto-stalk" feature.

An FYI..... Whatsapp has given Facebook permission to share any contacts within each other now

I hate it too..I'd like to disable it. FB trying to help me find friends lol.
I only use FB to keep in touch with people back east. I hardly have anyone from Metro Vancouver on there. . I prefer to interact with my friends the old fashioned way..over the phone or by visits in person.
Just delete your phone number from FB.

This thread should be called "Beware Having a Facebook Profile"

Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Snapchat, Pintrest etc. collect tons of info daily. Did you read ALL of the TOS and TOU? Very few people are willing to wade through that much info and fewer are able to understand all of it. They can change these when they want to. When you receive an update email, do you read all of it and review the changes? I know, this sounds kind of paranoid. These companies can and do share info across several platforms. All it takes is a few changes and the next thing you know you are receiving contact information from some sources you may not want shared. You would be surprised at the information that apps on your phone have permission to access and share.
What I find annoying is a free email account asking for my phone number so I can use it for "verification" purposes or to avoid being locked out of my email account. It's free. It's disposable.
Privacy is being eroded and the bizarre thing is; we are doing it by providing snippets of information.
Just like putting together a puzzle.

The conventional wisdom about apps and services like Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc. is "if it's free, it's because you're the product not the customer." These things are done to increase your value to them, not for your benefit.

One thing I noticed, if I have Facebook on my phone and a friend has fb on their phone, and we meet, they show up on my feed. It's like it is syncing our phones.

So don't have Facebook on your phone or tablet. Use only a regular computer for fb.

I was kinda wondering about this myself.
I do have Facebook on my iPhone. I'll go on there and do notice the "people you may know thing pops up."
Low and behold some Asian girls, etc will pop up. I'm not Asian and don't have any Asian friends per say but these girls pop up. Their fb pages are usually in Chinese too. I don't usually know who these girls are and don't recognize them.
I do fire off texts to some Asian sp's to enquire about services. Wonder if Facebook sees me texting these girls or something. Kind of a handy way to preview some of the girls to see if they aren't aunties, but I don't know who's who?
PM me if you're interested and maybe can chat more about this.

Jokes on you because they're all aunties!
