I rather chase cute asian girls in the mall wearing mini skirts than pokemons.I helps me do my daily walk, plus is better for my visual sense. Some of them walk so fast, that is a good workout for me.
Well said. I am somewhat bemused by the whole thing. I remember when Pokémon cards were the bane of my existence as a classroom teacher: I see the news stories about idiots jumping in front of cars...but then I see a story about the good the app is doing. In particular, this seems to be having a impact in providing a bridging mechanism that is helping individuals on the autism spectrum to communicate & interact in a meaningful & personal way with the world around them & other people in it. To parents of some children on the spectrum, this app is a godsend. The level of intolerance and anger in this thread is a bit disconcerting. We have been working on a kinder, more tolerant PERB for a while now. Everyone please learn that there are points of view other than your own and they can be debated and discussed without resorting to insults and taunting, or threads like this one will have to be closed.
In metrotown 200 youths were playing this game and lighting off firecrackers. Tonight, there were close to a hundred youths just sitting outside Hudson's Bay in metrotown while the other day some idiot jumped the skytrain tracks to play the game.

Empirical data that has any weight at this time is simply ridiculous. Do you know how research works? The firecracker situation was one or two people out of the entire group and the other events brought up are relatively isolated incidents.
In the month the game has been out, there has been empirical evidence that suggests the game helps in reducing both depression and anxiety in people who suffer from clinical instances of both mental health disorders. Its also been the subject of interest in helping rehabilitate soldiers with PTSD. And the average gamer is reporting walking more than 15km within a few days (maybe more). This implicates a change in the otherwise stereotypically (and with good reason to believe so) sedentary lifestyle of a person who games.
Youre straw manning your arguments by referring to the small number of people who choose to ignore the warning on the first screen of the game when it starts up (the one that says "remember to be alert at all times; stay aware of your surroundings") and ignoring the benefits. Even the application of Augmented Reality is a huge stride for the commercial tech industry.
With respect, you need to let people enjoy things because not everyone is climbing into yards, crashing cars into trees, or following these things off of cliffs.
Considering the large number of users playing the game, already "some of the users" represent quite a few people. Obviously, the media isn't reporting every time someone is getting hurt by playing the game.Well said .... and it should be noted ..... "some of the users."
Isn't that called stalking?I rather chase cute asian girls in the mall wearing mini skirts than pokemons.I helps me do my daily walk, plus is better for my visual sense. Some of them walk so fast, that is a good workout for me.
It was posted in the front page of a chinese paper recently where some chinese dude was in T&T or a similar store taking upskirt pics. The store cam plastered his face on the cover. I am sure there are many stalkers roamng the malls. Maybe they'll run into Pokemon players by accident. lolIsn't that called stalking?
Imagine if you put this game in real world! This AR game will be way more dangerous than pokemon go.My only gaming experience was with GTA3 back in 2001-2002..
If that's the case don't worry about it till your best friend insists that you play it. And life goes on...My only gaming experience was with GTA3 back in 2001-2002..
Ha. Your condescension is amusing considering the game is new, but research into things like going outside or engaging in a hobby when depressed is a therapeutic exercise is not. Did you forget to factor in all the variables before putting the seal of approval on your narrowminded, straw man view? :clap2:Empirical data that has any weight at this time is simply ridiculous. Assuming there is [some] data out there now on the benefits of this game, there WILL be data to show the opposite.
It sounds like I offended you. Carry on and play your game then.
Are you surprised or does it actually make sense?I find this very ironic considering we partake in an industry that carries a huge social stigma.
Come back in a year or two when more studies will be completed and see how your narrow minded "thinking" and cherry picking of links and sources to support your position will come back to bite you in the ass. :laugh:Ha. Or maybe just going outside for walks during the summer when depressed is a new beneficial thing and Im wrong again.
Oh. No Im not. Here's a well rounded article that discusses what Im talking about. Https://www.engadget.com/2016/07/13/pokemon-go-mental-health-science/
And yes, I'd appreciate it if the banter was constructive instead of pretentious.
I don't think anyone will disagree with you within the next little while. They are likely playing the game at Stanley Park for the big Pokemon meet. So, if you don't agree with me, thats fine, not looking for anyone's support or approval. Chill out and go find someone else to accuse of being narrow minded for disagreeing with personal preferences
