After I had the laser treatment I was given a prescription for a fungicide to put around the nail daily. Did it for a week. Didn't like possible side effect so quit.
Treatment centre cleaned the nails very well and stated that fungus if present would reside in the material collecting daily under the toenail. They advised a monthly pedicure. Well the pedicure even for a guy is great and I enjoy sitting there with the local gals and chatting. A little bit of monthly female attention. And they clean it better than I ever could.

My case had progressed at one point to losing the whole nail on the big toe. I could see the mess of fungus when the nail came off. St that stage I just used a common fungicide and that killed it quickly but as the nail grew back it started up again.

But yes still cured now after five years.

^that is a good article. Yup, mum and I both have autoimmune disorders, so we are more susceptible. I don't know how long it took for the fungus to die off as I wasn't thinking too much about it at the time; in the winter cold I only see my feet when I shower, and then it's just to soap them down. I just realized one day that my feet hadn't been bothering me anymore (one toe would get tender) and I put on my glasses for an inspection.

I wonder if having toe fungus could be an indication of a disorder? Anyhoo...it is always good to load your gut with beneficial bacteria, and I am a big fan of kefir.

did you read the entire article? it talks about intestinal flora and toe fungus. ibs and inflammatory bowel disease are just a few diseases that are impacted by a lack of flora.

Yes dear, I read the whole article and my point is: The article states that it can accompany a disorder, so, should people who have toe fungus and are not aware of having an autoimmune, or other disorder have a check up? I noticed clients who had very calloused feet with toe fungus (you can tell for looking when you know what your looking at) typically (but not in every case) had diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis (both autoimmune disorders).

Heavy callouses along the soles and up the heels is called moccasin foot, a type of athletes foot.

the simplest explanation i've read is that as people age, their circulation slows down - especially to their feet. this allows fungi to form as there are too few antibodies being transported to the feet that will keep them at bay

So if you don't have the flora in your intestines you could try a few good kissing sessions with your SP. or maybe a few different ones to get diversity. Might help the toe fungus and some other things

... and without intestinal flora, it will give you a lot of other problems unless you replenish them.

and taking supplements like acidophilus, grape seed capsules and organic apple cider vinegar to change the pH of your body. Adding organic Greek Yogurt daily to your breakfast helps too.

all those are great recommendations and have been used for centuries in some form or another.

I finally got some stuff that works.

For years I was using the creams like desnex micatin. It only barely controlled it.

I've had it for years and years. One of my nails was black and yukky, one other was just real ugly and thick looking.

In December I got some new stuff through a recommendation. Probably not very widely known. In about 8 weeks, it's about 75% gone and not visibly noticeable to others. Even once it's gone you have to treat for 3-4 more months daily, then once per week for a year to ensure the fungus is killed.

Honestly, I'm selfish and since it works so good, I am thinking of marketing it myself, to men.
Stay tuned.

that would be quite the kissing session!

your tongue would have to reach all the way to her intestinal tract!

maybe some dato would be more helpful. :D

Your probably not aware of cure developed for severe cases of bowel issues caused by antibiotics wiping out everything and screwing up the flora balance that fecal transplants save the day and maybe lives. Been going on for five years now. DATO might be the correct reply

So have toe fungus go lick an ass then cured. I doubt it.

Hope I'm not grossing anyone...
Unfortunately I'm gradually joining a prestigious club of about 15% of the population that has this nasty thing (which BTW says nothing about one's hygiene).

There's so many treatment options out there from various prescribed medications (with side effects), Tea Tree Oil, laser, soaking your feet in Listerin for 1/2 an hour etc. ...
There's also an occasional offer on Groupon or one of those other soon-to-be-defunct services.

Unfortunately reviews/tips on the Internet can't be trusted as so many of them are actually sponsored by those trying to promote their own brand of magic solution!

Does anyone here know of proven/successful methods that people have used (and not ashamed to share).

Thanks!
Go see a podiatrist! I thought I had toe nail fungus, so I saw a podiatrist. He took samples and sent them in for testing. It takes several months to get the results back. He told me he's never been able to tell by just by looking at problem nails. And if he can't. You can't either!

BTW, the tests came up negative. He said that the whole thing about toe nail fungus is a racket. They want to sell you pills. Thickened toe nails are often caused by other issues, such as pressure from ill fitting shoes.

Nail fungus is real! That is crap about just wanting to sell pills.

And for those of you doing the laser thing be sure your therapist has credentials. The treatment will make it quite hot under the nail up to the point where you will say no more. No burning though. Just shining a laser on your toe won't do it
