This one was a very interesting read for me. I've had sleep issues for years; staying up too late and having to haul my ass out of bed very early for work. I'd do all the little things to try to ensure a good night sleep but still require some sort of helper to get myself to sleep.

I used to see an SP regularly in the AM sort of an early morning booty call if you will. I'd set my alarm and txt her say 8 AM ish if we were getting together for 30 min that morning. Then she started wanting her start of the day being around noon so by default I became a nooner kind of guy. She once said she did her best work if she started at noon vs 08:30.

Now there is documented proof that starting your work day at 10 or 11 is best. Lucky I'm self employed lol

You know, I agree! I used to start my work day at 7:30...never as happy as I am in the morning now! I like having early morning sex too...starts me smiling for the whole day! If I had a great appointment at 9:30 every weekday, I would be grinning permanently!

I work till 10 or 11 P.M....So the old belief that a Farmer or Rancher should start at 4 or 5 A.M. doesn't work for me.
I'll drag my ass outta bed at 7 A.M.....Think about my day till 7:30 or so....Right around then the coffee starts to taste just right, so I'll jump on here for 10 minutes.
If I have a message from a lady or two inboxed...Well I just get lustfully distracted.

Pffffffff! As a commercial fisherman, you get use to working for your sleep. 22 hr days halibut fishing. Three days strait shaking herring gillnetting. Trolling from sun up til sundown. It does wear on you. Around the sixth day you start having a hard time going to sleep even though you're exhausted. But you gotta make hay while the sun shines as they say.

yeah this is a big reason why I failed at school, I just couldn't get out of bed that early...I would just sleep in and miss class a lot. And another huge reason why I decided to join into this industry, all because of sleep. My sleep is extremely important to me, almost like life or death because I have depression.

working for your sleep, interesting!!! kind of describes my life haha!

Now that I'm not a teenager anymore I can actually get up early and not suffer, but getting enough sleep is a different story.

There is increasing scientific evidence to suggest that secondary school should start later in the day for this very reason. Teenagers naturally sleep later. Letting them sleep and start school later results in better results and better grades.

Yup that is mentioned in the link I provided. 10 AM for High School and 11 AM for University students.

Reminds me of the days in Tech School starting at 8 AM and going to 5 or 6 PM. Quick exercise, Quick dinner, three hours of homework and then two quick beers before bed at Midnight.

From my own past practice, I always felt school days would have been a lot more productive if 8-10:00 was non instructional time with staff only in session for prep, etc. 10:00 the school day begins, and runs 10 -1, 2-5 year round. Four 10 week terms with a 3 week break between each. One major FULLY GOVERNMENT FUNDED 'educational field study' each term, total abolishment of letter grades in the elementary school system...

NOW look what you done...got me on my soapbox...

Yah .
I never thought of my self as a morning person .. but when I did building .I was expected to be at work by 8 .. 830 .. When self employed I pushed that to 10.. and felt a lot better ..
I never was zombied in the mornings. Like I have seen many are ..

But I have found through the years I like working morn 8n the afternoon .and in to the late night ..
And when I had the escort driving job .I was good with working till 5 ..6 in the morning ..
And then go get 4 hrs of sleep ..and maybe some naps through the day ..Then do it all over again the next night ....So I was more of a night person..

Then I went from that to a driving job where I get up at 4..415 in the morning to be first in line at the ferry to vancouver at at 530 545 .. to catch the 7 ferry.

I don't sleep that we'll but I look forward to getting up and going every morn ..been doing it for a yr now ..
But that about all I do too .

One thing I have noticed...

When in my past I have been forced to rise early in the morning to begin my day (high school, college, teaching elementary school...) I was REALLY slow to rouse and always felt like I needed to wake up slowly. Having suffered from prediodic sleep problems my entire life made mornings worse. At the beginning of the end of my teaching tenure, I needed two pots of coffee to feel human...Now, I am awake when I open my eyes and out of bed 10 minutes later, ready to seize the day! (And the coffee...)

Thats what gets me out of the bed, is the impending coffee.
Coffee is also what will make me drive to civilization...Not paying the bills, parts for the equipment, or getting sewn up by a Doctor.....It's the fact that I've run out of coffee that fires up the diesel, and makes me run into town.
I've also found that if I start my day at 5 or 6 A.M....That I will still work till 10 or 11 P.M.
After two weeks of that shit ,I start feeling a little ragged. I'm also the freakin' Boss around here ,so I can start when I damn well please...But I will cut my cowboys and cowgirls some slack at the start of the day, as long as they don't whine at the end of it....or start the day hung over...Then my voice gets a little louder, and fence posts start to get pounded that day, in the oddest places that I usually wouldn't want them.
Corrals and round pens, have a way of popping up around here after the week long, sleep deprived Rodeos.

Cowboy, I keep an extra can in reserve at all times. I used to have a coffeemaker in my classroom. Decaf is the worst swearword I know.

Look at what they are doing in New Zealand. Haven't got there on start time, but I believe they have four 10 week terms with a break between each. And I don't believe they use letter grades there now... though maybe there is still some variant of it.
