i love the way they offer pattison up as a fair, impartial citizen to watch over the chicken coop

have you ever noticed how all the new save-ons or pricesmarts are built within 100 yards of a skytrain station - years before the skytrain ever serviced that area?

yeah... impartial all right

Yeah, I don't particularly agree with their choice either.

Huh? How is that a solution? Translink is also responsible for the roads and transport infrastructure. Starving them of the taxes to make improvements also means lack of resources to improve the road network. We have among the worst traffic congestion in North America now, and you suggest that we should make it worse rather than providing a viable alternative to driving a car. This needs more explanation.

When the roads turn to total crap and congestion has you down, it gives you the excuse to buy.........

............................................and just make your own damn road.

How the "yes" side thinks that Pattison is a plus for them is beyond me.

How do most average people relate to a billionaire? Someone in the upper 1%?
The skew of world wealth puts all of these super-rich into one bucket.... exploiters, ultimately.
Rich folks are rich mainly on the backs of the average struggling vanishing middle class and of the poor.

So, while there is some envy at the presence of wealth, there is disdain, mistrust and dislike from which Pattison cannot escape.
A bad choice for a mascot of the "yes" side.

Man o man the YES side surely do need to spend all that money to advertise because they continue to provide great ammo for the NO side free of charge.

Take this little bit of news from today -

http://www.theprovince.com/news/vancouver/Lions+Gate+Bridge+closed+2030/10978718/story.html

There is a deal (an actual deal folks not just a rumor) that the Lions Gate bridge is to be converted to transit and bikes in 2030. This was in exchange for the right to expand the cause way and to take down the 47 trees necessary to do so.

They say truth is stranger than fiction.

Firstly I don't understand why the Provincial government had to even negotiate with the Vancouver Parks Board to take down trees in order widen the causeway. Hasn't the government heard of expropriation. Cause they sure have no issues doing it to private citizen's land.

Why didn't the Provincial government just take down the tree and tell the City of Vancouver to go FUCK THEMSELVES if they objected.

And really all this because of 47 fucking trees really. This is absurd. Fucking moron greenies.

Oh the best part ....... North Shore residents will be offered a third seabus to offset the loss of the bridge. Hahahahahahah.

Seriously that fucking moron Gregor has to go. I just don't understand how anyone can support him.

Frankly I cannot see how anyone can support the green side at all.

So all of you who live on the North Shore you better get out there and vote NO.

The closure is to be dependent on the building of a third crossing to the North Shore and since nothing has come of that, the bridge won't be shut down. Some really lazy journalism but more free publicity for Jordan Bateman.

The point is the fact such an agreement could even be drafted in the first place.

Why the fuck should the Provincial government have to enter into any deal to improve a road.

Isn't there such a thing as expropriation .... they do it ALL the time to private land owners.

Just cut the trees down why get permission or worst enter into this kind of agreement with the City???????????????

We are talking of 47 tree and how many are in Stanley Park.

This is just the kind of stupidity governments are capable of so Translink getting more money .............. NO FUCKEN WAY.

And yes I just love the angle this news story paints. It makes for easy reading ...... hahahahahahahaha.

We need to make a stronger initiative for driving, the creation of more roads and highways and to start limiting the amount of money spent on public transportation. Roads and highways are the LIFELINE to any major city. People need to start realizing that driving is ESSENTIAL. Who likes waiting for a bus or standing on a train platform waiting for long periods of time?

Totally disagree. I don't own a car. I use Modo when I need a car, or sometimes rent one. Just rented a car this weekend - $39 for 3 days with unlimited km. Most of the time I find public transport is much easier and sometimes faster... though that clearly isn't true all of the time.

Clearly the oil lobby want you to believe what you are advocating, but I'm suggesting BS. Driving is not ESSENTIAL, and when the roads are totally clogged, also not convenient. It is time for us to think differently about how we live and the planet. BTW, I rarely have to wait on a platform very long waiting for a Skytrain to show up.

if you go to a metropolitan city like hong kong, Toronto, etc, then you'll know driving is ESSENTIAL here in metro Vancouver! our rapid transit system is nothing compare to these cities.

It sure as hell is when you have to do it to make money. Try getting your house reno'd by a contractor who takes the bus.

.....think how much faster he'd get there if all the Car2Go and Modo types were off the road....let alone the "let's buy a license" crowd.

Not essential to you personally but for me Transit is only an option if I don't need to get somewhere in a hurry. My biz is business to business visiting clients all over the GVRD. Taking Seabus, Skytrain etc to get to three to five unique locations in a business day is not an option. In fact I worked it out via their transit planner a while ago and found the max number of appointments I could physically do between 8 AM and 6 PM was three. That was pushing it too without any consideration of a bus being late or full etc.

IF the Mayor's Council had said we will make these road improvements based upon the tax increase, I would have considered it. Gregor and the rest of the Clown Show still have their heads up their asses. We are not going to use bicycles or buses to do the type of work I do and that is log a minimum of 100 km per day visiting clients locations.

And having lived in Hong Kong for many years, and then living in Metro Vancouver for over 10 years, I think I've demonstrated you DON'T need a car here. My SO and other have discussed it a few times, but each time when we look at how much we would actually NEED to use it, it doesn't make economic sense. So, we are members of Modo and it rarely gets anywhere near $100 per month with that, most of the time under $50. Is the transit system as good as Hong Kong? Nope. Won't disagree with that at all. But, it is sufficient most of the time not to be a major inconvenience... and I split my time between inner Vancouver, Surrey and Burnaby. I have also on occasion driven into Vancouver during the business day and wished I'd taken transit instead as it would have been both faster and more convenient than trying to find parking somewhere.

And if you were able to have far fewer cars on the road because of the quality of the public transit system, you could fit in even more appointments. Seems like it would be a win-win situation there, which certainly isn't going to happen if the transit infrastructure isn't improved. Maybe you will be looking at a maximum of three appointments a day driving as well one the roads get even more clogged with no tax and no other sources of revenue to fund the needed improvements. Seems short-sighted on the part of business owners and those needing to drive as part of their employment or business NOT to want the improvements enable through the tax, which would ultimately improve the situation for everyone.

i guess you don't go to far-away places within metro Vancouver which let you explore the region. One hour drive to that place than three hour transit is way too economical. ;)
