I don't know if this is the right spot ,if not mods please move

I am new to this ,but have seen a few young ladies . There is a couple of things they say that are defiant no repeat for me.

#1 Wish I could afford to buy ----- but I have no money

#2 I sure would like to have one of those ----- my size is ---

#3 I don't do that when they said when texting it is on the menu.

When they get $$+ per hr I do not want to hear there problems when there expenses get to $.8 a hr then they can see what problems are.
We all have expenses but I want to relax and enjoy my self not hear there problems ,they should listen to my woes .

hey wait...it's not 200/hr like a normal 8 hr work day...sometimes it's 200 a day, 200 a week...200 in a month. All depends how many hours and clients you get.

You would have no idea really, lets say there would be 2 clients in the whole day, so $400. Lets say she works 3 days a week...1200/week. Anyways, you can do the math with whatever combination you like. Also factor in those $80-100 quicky, 150-180$ hh/45 mins rates...and also subtract the portion paid for incall location, sometimes it's $30-$50 per date, or a flat $100+ rate per work day, and money paid for other work items like drivers, condoms & toiletries, clothing & lingerie or toys, etc etc.

Maybe she does have a real job too? none of your business thats for sure. And this is not even legal so tax discussion doesn't belong here.

In Your Wildest Dreams!
Escorting is a real job.

Sex work is work.
Thanks Ms Taylor for putting it so succinctly.

It is a real job, but unlike my last 'real job' there are no
  • sick days
  • mdeical/dental benefits
  • pension
  • negotiated wages
  • fairly negotiated contract
  • bargaining unit representatives
  • guaranteed salary

As Caramel pointed out, it isn't like we work 40 hours a week at $200/hr. I used to take a paid sick day (or two or three) when I got a really bad cold. Now, I stay home in my jammies in "Real Life" mode, not in working mode. When the phone goes quiet for a day or two it's sometimes like a nice mini-holiday. When it gets quiet for longer than that, it can get stressful! Finally, I don't ever remember anyone in my last retail job saying to me "Hey, Erica; I know you normally make FIFTEEN BUCKS AN HOUR, but I'm a little short right now. Are you OK with making FOUR BUCKS today?" It's undeniably true that many escorts make more in a day than some 'real jobs' earn in a week, but it's not all of them, and it's NOT all the time!

Things you don't want to hear from an SP?

"I've got strep throat, but if you're OK with that, I can still see you because I really need to work today"
"I couldn't find a babysitter, so my kid is asleep in the other room. If you're OK with that I can still see you, because I really need to work today"
"The last guy I saw today treated me really badly and made me feel like shit about myself and I've been crying for an hour. If you're OK with that I can still see you..."
"I'm not going to be working much soon because I really need to go to treatment/see my family/have some teeth filled..."

The above applies to the majority of people who run their own businesses or work as independent contractors. I have friends who work as writers, musicians, freelance public relations professionals, and make up artists, and all have the same struggles.

I do think sex workers deserve more legal protections than we currently receive, and I do think sex work is markedly different from other types of service work (primarily due to social stigma), but I feel the need to speak up when people say things like "get a real job." Escorting is a real job.

And I think we are being disrespectful of the ladies on here to suggest that most of them aren't paying taxes.
I think more pay taxes than some posters suggest.
I filed my taxes 3 weeks ago, that was a ouch :fear: We have to put money away each month to pay at the end of the year, Its not like we have a employer making deductions off our pay each week. Very easy to get stung at the end of the year if your weren't proactive with a tax account you put money into weekly or monthly.

I have done my part and my remittance is already at CRA

I got hit with a big 'ouch' last year and was prepared to have to pay a lot again this year, but I hit a sweet spot in my tax bracket and got a nice return for the first time in many years.

I had tears in my eyes as I thanked my accountant for doing such a good job.

:)

Yup. I know it. There's also a huge underground construction industry where everyone is getting paid cash under the table, (which also means no benefits and no protection but rarely do I hear people ask construction workers if they cheat on their taxes!

I was in construction for years, and the under the table work was rampant in Vancouver....It happens in every industry and trade.....Even the food , forestry, art, fisheries, you name it.
And yes I agree with some people posting the fact that, if your self employed, we have to look after everything...no benefits, no holiday or sick pay...not to mention maintaining a business to run.
It always amazes me the difference at the end of a year from gross to net....But I answer to nobody, which I could never put a price on.

Amen!

I also maintain that, before sex work I had to kiss a lot of metaphorical ass at work but never got so well compensated or enjoyed it so much...

Whenever I get discouraged about being self employed, I remind myself that I don't have to wear a uniform, punch a timeclock, have someone else tell me when I'm allowed to eat lunch or go to the bathroom, no boss, no co-workers, no employees ...
