Just my rant for the day .... it bothers me that Courier companies and Canada Post is still charging "fuel surcharges" still even with falling oil/fuel prices. When these companies first implemented these surcharges they blamed it on rising fuel costs thus when fuel prices drop shouldn't they remove these surcharges??

Air Canada and many other airlines buy fuel in US dollars. So any savings in the per-litre price you see at the pump are offset by the plummeting Canadian dollar.

Most airlines and other large transportation companies buy fuel contracts, not fuel by the tankful. They have to guess what fuel will cost six months from now.

Nobody thought these oil prices would ever happen, and lots of companies and governments (Alberta, Newfoundland, probably Canada) are really fucked up right now.

There are news saying that airlines' fuel prices usually take one month to adjust. ;)

This also includes airplane-involved businesses.

Ever have to replace/fix a blown out differential?...how about scrapping a perfectly good well running vehicle because of a snapped timing belt which causes terminal engine failure.

Do you get costs like that added to your courier delivered packages?..........NOPE......but guys like me have to deal with those suddenly un-expected costs.Get a differential re-built at $2500 out of your wallet and I imagine you would shut your pie hole pretty fast.

yeah the price of oil has dropped but the cost of gasoline has not caught up to it in any way.

Huh. What's one got to do with the other?

Do timing belts snap more when gasoline prices are lower or higher?

+1

If you are using a fuel surtax to deal with repairs and maintenance issues then maybe you should revise your pricing structure.

And the price of gas here in Vancouver (usually among the highest in Canada) has dropped from $1.47 last fall to $1.01 last night.

In my opinion that is a significant change.

I have even heard that there are some stations below $1.00

use top tier detergent gas and make sure you get your car to do maintenance when it is due.

It's a total cash grab by these companies
to pump up their profit margin so the executives
can get their bonuses.
