Not Always Sure...
It still only applies to those purchasing in a public place so nothing really charges from our perspective..
??? Not sure where you got that from. Here's the quote:

COMMODIFICATION OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY
286.1 (1) Everyone who, in any place, obtains for consideration, or communicates with anyone for the purpose of obtaining for consideration, the sexual services of a person is guilty of
(a) an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term of not more than five years and a minimum punishment of, etc.

Sexual services can't be sold in a public place; sexual services can't be purchased anywhere… There are more alarming parts, actually. I can't believe they drafted this after the Bedford decision, it's ridiculous...

Here's the whole bill:

Wait, does this put the good old fashion hotel room police sting back on the table?

I hope this gets delayed until after the next election. I wouldn't have voted conservative anyway. They are a sanctimonious lot who should find some real crime to fight.

Not just hotels. It gets worse - it would be illegal for an s.p. to advertise services, anywhere including the internet. You guys who are obsessed with nailing down every little menu item are gonna die!

It is bad!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew they would come out with ridiculous laws regarding this - ignorant political party!!
I guess there will be examples made and publicized to highlight this new law. Someone asked if the number of rapes is going to increase ....
Time for the Conservative party to get booted!

So much for getting feedback from the public: (is this where they came up with buying is not ok but selling is ok?)
The new bill comes just two days after the Justice Department released the results of an online consultation that showed a slim majority of respondents felt that buying sex should be illegal.
However, two-thirds of the more than 31,000 respondents said selling sex should not be an offence.

The bill was modelled after one in Sweden, only they've made it worse. The "online consultation" was just a P.R. exercise devised by their spin doctors to make it look like the "Canadian public" were supporting what they had already announced they wanted to do. Remember this current government is supported heavily by right-wing Christian groups in Alberta. That's who's support they most count on.
This whole thing really sucks because it increases risks on all sides of the industry, especially for the providers.

I can never reconcile polls like this

51% say you should not be able to buy sex.
33% say you should not be able to sell sex.

So, 18% think its ok to sell, but not ok to buy. How can that be?

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
Could see this actually be a good thing for the established ladies? Or the MP's?
If what chuckertmg says is right, guys are going to only see the ladies we know are not cops to avoid a sting.
No more TOFTT with some new girl on BP.
You might want to contact your established regulars and lock in at their current rate because if the pickin's become slim, in terms of ladies we can see we know are not cops, I can see prices skyrocketing.

I don't think it would matter which political party was in the outcome would have been the same... Keep in mind people that with the Conservatives in power over the last number of years we were one of the strongest countries during the economical upheaval that has been faced. Any other party in power during that time and many of the pooners would have greatly reduced the number of visits they had.

I can't imagine I'll be visiting any girls in a hotel once this becomes law.
It doesn't matter just discussing it on the phone is now illegal. If the cops set up a sting it doesn't matter whether you show up to the hotel or not the conversation itself will be illegal

How is that? A phone conv is private not public.

Not that this kind of thing doesn't bother me but I don't think we should all be getting our panties in a knot quite yet.
The bill has just been introduced. There is yet to be a lot of discussion amongst legal experts regarding exactly what this bill makes illegal or not. For example is a phone conversation private or public?
As well, whose to say this bill would withstand a challenge in the Supreme Court just like the old one couldn't? One could argue that while this new legislation does not specifically target prostitutes, it by targeting Johns and Pimps would still drive the industry underground and therefore pose a danger to prostitutes. Isn't that what got the old law thrown out. Because it was shown to force the prostitutes to work under conditions which were endangering their welfare and thus unconstitutional.
Sure this bill might be modeled after some others in Europe but they don't have the same constitution as us. I could see this new law being challenged almost as soon as it passes.

We should all vote...it is simple as ABC
Anybody But Conservative
No... That's how the Conservatives will win. The left vote is split. We need to actively choose one party and make sure they make it past the post... Or they join up forces.
