congratulations to Trevor Linden.

definitely one of the good guys and I'm sure the fan base approve unanimously.

I've always liked his straight shooter demeanor and I hope the position doesn't turn
him into someone else. it seems that the higher the status, the more one becomes
an a-hole and I hope it's not the case with Linden.

good luck Trevor, you have the city by your side.

This is a hire to try to offset the damage done to the season ticket holder base. Linden is a figurehead and at the end of the day, Aquillini will be the one calling the shots, not Trevor Linden. Apart from that, it is a strange hire. He has no experience in a high level sports front office position and I am sure there are better candidates out there than him for his new position. Who knows, he may be a natural if left to his own devices but Aquillini won't let that happen.

I like the choice and hope according to the press conference that Aquilini does take a hands off approach and let's Linden's team run the hockey operation. Now he doesn't have the resume to jump right in there and run stuff like Steve Yzerman did when he was in the Detroit organization. At least Stevie Y got some on the job training before going to Tampa.

Choosing a dynamic GM will be the Canucks next requirement. Do they choose someone internal like Stan Smyl? Is Naslund (not dynamic IMHO) returning from Sweden?

Do they try to poach somebody who has not got a contract extension from their existing team? - don't know if there is anyone out there in that situation who might fit.

I'm guessing they'll promote Gilman and bring in a newbie to learn under him as AGM.

Just got an email from Trevor himself

They are extending the deadline for renewals. Plus making it fully refundable up till July 11th.
Apparently they are already over 90% renewals anyways.

I kind of feel bad for Linden. He is like the town hero. But if he can't bring the city the cup, at some point the city will turn on him.
Just a matter of how long. If we don't make the playoffs for the next 4-5 years, will we hear a "Fire Linden" chant?

If they really are over 90% renewals then why the special treatment this year.

This is the first time I have ever recalled having the renewal deadline extended or having a stated refundable policy in the 10 plus years that I have had season's tickets.

In the past all my excess funds from playoff games not played were just forwarded to the next year automatically (I know I could have requested a refund).

Now they are being so nice.

Amazing just how much Trevor managed to do in just one day ............

I wonder who is responsible for this new niceness. For me, I have nice upper deck seats, that I plan to keep forever. But I don't like how in prior years its 10% non-refundable by the end of March.
I remember after lasts years sweep, all the people on the canucks forum saying they are cancelling their seats. But you know they don't have seats and are just venting, as throwing away that 10% is nuts.
I don't understand why anyone would cancel, when times are good they are worth so much. I can see lower bowl people moving up to upper bowl III or IV

Gotta agree with this comment, me feelings have the same mixed emotions. If he turns the ship around, he remains a hero. If they win the cup, he is a super hero. If he doesn't, his days are numbered. I hope he doesn't finish his wonderful career on a failed note. The needs and skill set of a successful President are very different than that of a team Captain. I am not sure what qualifies him for this leadership role--he seems untested as a corporate boss. He can certainly make the fans happy for a while and relate genuinely to the players, but ya gotta know what it takes to build and manage a winning team, and make some good tough calls along the way. Best wishes Trevor, and Canucks fans. We'll give it a fair try...

While it's true that Linden doesn't have a lot of experience at this type of job, don't forget that his hockey career also saw him as President of the NHLPA. He's from the same generation of players as Steve Yzerman and Joe Sakic...both of whom have made the transition to front office positions. Both of whom are friends of Linden. No doubt he's been on the phone with them (as well as Cam Neely) over the past 48 hours. I think this was already in the making beyond the past 48 hours. For the team it's a good PR move and the players like him a lot. Let's hope he performs as well as Yzerman or Sakic or Neely. He has to surround himself w/ good people and a new GM who's on the same page. I think Tort's days are coming to an end under the Linden era.

I really never knew Trevor Linden could walk on water, make the blind see and cure cancer, but according to comments on hockey blogs he can do it all and still sell condos on the side.

I really think some fans believe the season can be salvaged with Trevor in the President's seat and the Canucks can still make the playoffs by looking good in the last three games. Definitely the Stanley Cup will be theirs next season.

I wonder how many breaks the league will give a Vancouver team headed by a former NHLPA leader?

Because TL can do all those things (in the minds of the fans) the Nucks will keep making money while they do their absolute best to finish in the bottom 5 next year, and then pray to get the #1 draft. If they don't they might still get a star. A star they no longer have. The Sedins quit being stars when Boston kicked their asses and no one stood up for them and they didn't stand up for themselves. I often wonder how two brothers who obviously think together on the ice can't fuck a guy up just by playing hockey - mean hockey. I remember Bure and Chara - Bure was beauty. When Chara woke up he never went at Bure again.

That is why they brought Torts in - to try to give the team a backbone. Instead he got the bone from the whole team. ahahhaha

You'd be looking at a long suspension in todays NHL if you did what Bure did now. Nice that they got Linden but with all those ntc's, The 'nucks are working with one hand tied behind their back if they wanna make trades. If they lose two more they pick pretty high in the draft this year.Next year? They don't have that kind of luck(never had a 1st overall pick)

Ya, I didn't mean to say anyone should do today what Bure did back in the day. But I am saying that the team and each and every, or at least most, players should have that mindset. Hockey is not a game for pussies.

The hyperbole over Linden's hiring is reaching proportions of ridiculousness even for the sports world.

Garry Valk last night said something like, "Linden is so smart he can see more things in one game than most people would never see in 40 games."

Fuck me, why isn't the guy running the province, or country? Or the UN? Apparently we have a new religion in Vancouver and it is Trevorism. It causes people to swoon and lose their senses. Particularly the sense of smell, it would seem.

Can't wait until he brings these back...

Could be right, could be wrong and the beauty of it is Trevor is Pres and he can pick and choose his own team. His own GM who in turn will want his own coach. I think Torts will be blip on the Canuck history soon I hope.

Funny how the Leafs tore a page out of the Canuck's book today by announcing Brendan Shanahan would be their next Pres of Hockey Operations.

The retooling of Canucks for the upcoming 44th Season has started in earnest. Deciding upon the Management Team for the upcoming draft is probably the most burning issue for the Canucks now. Closely followed with exit interviews with the 2013/2014 players to gauge whether or not they are part of the solution or part of the problem. I am sure some of these players have had enough after this season and would like a fresh start elsewhere if trades presented themselves.

Churla deserved that elbow. (same with Horton a la Rome) LOL. the weasel Churla was nowhere to be seen after that.
Bure sure was a feisty little guy for a superstar. why aren't more Swedes like this?
