With Melanson and a good support his ceiling is insane. He's got size and an incredible set of tools but has been woefully mismanaged by the Panthers (gee, what a surprise). People crucified Gillis at the beginning of the season and in training camp for not moving forward with a youth movement like he and Gilman promised. Well, here you go. Our goalie tandem just got 10 years younger, and after buying out Booth in the summer (and the cap increase) the Canucks will have almost 12 million dollars to pursue a high end free agent. In the relegation league (konen as "Kvalserien" over here) as a 17 y.o. and I've followed him closely ever since. I've seem him dominate the Swedish Hockey League playing for a highly mediocre Brynas IF and I've seen him carry team Sweden in the JWC and I've also seen him play strongly and winning a gold medal at senior level. I also saw him rob a few teams last yr behind an even WORSE Panther team and play decent overall.
This year was the first time I really saw him struggle. It was like the decision to sign Timmy T really got to him and he was shaky, almost like his confidence was gone. Then he went to the AHL and the struggles continued for a while with Marky playing uneven. But then he rebounded. Strongly. He just won the AHL goalie of the month and has gotten his stats up quit a bit for a weak Rampage team.. Their fans are talking about Markstrom leaving as the final blow for their playoff run..
My point? This kid has got it. He was amazingly highly rated just 12 months ago and has been gravely mishandled by the Panthers (read something on FLAHF that it was just this season he gotta goalie coach!) . I for one is happy he's now a Canuck and I think you guys will work wonders with him. Just wanted to provide some backstory for those who were thinking "who the F is Markstrom guy?".
I am so freaking stoked on Dane Fox you have no idea. He went undrafted because of off-ice problems but the kid is a stud. Mullen is legitimately terriawful and I was surprised we were able to move him (well, it's a Utica-Binghampton deal).3 Swede's now and an American.

Canucks this season also added:
Canucks announced the signing of Erie Otters forward Dane Fox back in December. One of Bo Horvat's best Friends. By looking at the Ontario Hockey League scoring leaders, Fox sat second in points with 81 in 43 games and had a commanding lead in the goal department with 51, which was 15 more than the next guy and 20 more than the guy in third at that time.
Today in addition to the Luongo deal: Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Michael D. Gillis announced today that the Canucks have acquired left wing Jeff Costello from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for defenceman Patrick Mullen.
Costello, 23, has recorded 19 points (11-8-19) and 69 penalty minutes in 34 games as team captain with Notre Dame this season. A Milwaukee, WI, native, he has collected 60 points (28-32-60) in 105 games with Notre Dame.
The 5’11”, 212 pound left wing was originally selected by Ottawa 146th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
15% percent retained, so about 800k.How much are the Canucks paying Lu to live in Florida now? Are we carrying any of his salary now?
How do u know? Was he your customer? *LOL*Eddie Lack is actually 6'5"
Basing off of Freidman's speculation (i.e close to Biblical in hockey terms): Kesler yes, Edler no.Took that directly off the Canucks and NHL site Peyton... 6'4" 6'5" good to see we have some decent potential to grow from.. Retooled. Think Mattias will be a decent top 9 forward. He's played with Booth too so. Until the end of the season maybe they can stick those two together.
Biggest question is whether Edler and Kesler be moved by 12:00 pm noon tomorrow.
Not too bad. That's like half a years salary of a mid range player.15% percent retained, so about 800k.
Compared to the 1M Nonuts wanted retained for Scrivens and two mid round picks.
Or a pretty low-end fourth liner. Not too bad. That's like half a years salary of a mid range player.

Thank you Vancouver for a great 8 years! Really appreciative of all the support especially the last little while. I will miss the LOOO'ing!!
If the Canucks could get Virtanen with their own pick and get a low first from a contender for Edler/Bieksa (in a package obviously) and snag Pastrnak I would be over the fucking moon.Don't think Ho-Sang will drop that far..to our pick but you never know..

first off not going to get into a numbers pissing match with you when the numbers are CLEAR on CapGeek.com CANUCKS Deadline Space $4,866,102 That 4.8 million in cap space after the trade they were at Cap this morning. Deal gave them Cap relief. You also have to figure in most of Mattias and Markstrom's pay has already been done for this year. On top of that Luongo's cap hit is 5.3 million per season so your numbers are off base.
canucks team salary cap
Secondly there are a lot of people that are projecting Mr Ho-Sang to do well. He has 81 points in 61 games so far with the Windsor Spitfires OHL in his second year.
Ho-Sang is a small but skilled forward with some incredible hands. He's shown impressive skating ability and agility with the puck on his stick. He's a crafty player that has the excitement factor in his favor. He can rely too heavily on himself at times, but has great offensive instincts and pounces on chances. (August 2013)
Ho-Sang often turns heads with his ability to handle the puck with ease in the offensive zone. He has speed and great offensive instincts but needs to work on his game outside of the offensive zone. He has the ability to explode offensively this season and has the potential to be a top ten pick in next years draft. (Tyler Parchem, EP 2013)
Seen him play at the Midget Air Canada Cup and at the all canadian. Sure his game needs some area of improvements whose doesn't in this years draft class..lol but the kid has skill.
I for one would love for the Canucks to pick up Jake Virtanen just don't see that happening but if it did I'd be happy as a pig in......well you know.
I don't think it's unrealistic to expect we could get Virtanen. It's probable Vancouver will be picking 8-11th overall.Ben Kuzma @benkuzma 3m
