My pug mix is diabetic, and I give her insulin 2 times a day, along with diabetic dog food, this is expensive, but you have to know where to draw the line.

A SAVAGE LUST GARDEN
I had to take my pup to the vet for some reason, then I was told to come back and they will clean her teeth.
Ok, I did that.
While my dog was still under, they call me to let me know that all is good she's got good teeth, but one is a bit close to the other teeth and it could cause.....blah blah
Main reason ....she suggested me braces for my dog to correct the problem.
When I heard that, I got so mad.....I told her to STOP right there and not a single more word regarding braces.
I just can't believe this kind of nonsense really??
I mean I love my dog and she always looks like a million bucks because I take care of her but seriously , they are pet.
I will repeat myself
PET !!!
Lol

I've given my cat a root canal. I felt just awful when my vet told me that my cat had a toothache for over 10 years. The other had 3 extractions as she's part Siamese and they usually have extra teeth. I also give my cat fluid injections because she has kidney problems and can't retain water.

Pets needs doctors and treatment just as much as humans. Taking your pet to the vet once a year is like you going to the doctor once every 7. I feel pretty strongly about taking the best care of my pets. They are more than pets, they're companions. Now, I see what you're saying, braces are for the most part cosmetic and I wouldn't go for that unless my pet needed it, would be in pain without it etc. Vets aren't out of their minds, we have taken these animals and domesticated them and that domestication has brought with it human problems. Dogs don't eat carrion anymore, they eat fabricated processed foods that cause health problems like dental disease and cancers.

Check your closet..:)
When my oldest Fennec Fox was at the Vet in a Coma. God knows how that happened. The wanted to do an MRI on him to see what it could be for a measly 3500$.
After 2 days at 1700$ a day it was time for him to go. Then THEY had the gull to say that they would do an MRI for FREE to see what really went wrong after he was dead
for FREE.

I will not post my reply in the forum as it might be to graphic.

In Your Wildest Dreams!
Yes, but just think of all the bone, muscle and flesh that had to be cloned in order to turn a Mouse into a Rottweiler.
That adorable puppy cost me $50 on Feb. 1st, 2000. His vet bills over the years have been rather staggering.

See that fat front ankle and foot? The fracture was from being hit by a car in front of the house. It was Christmas Eve, and he went over a 4 foot fence to chase the deer in the neighbour's yard! The car rolled through a stop sign and clipped him as he was circling back to the house....(long dramatic story I'll spare you...) Then in 2005 he cut it so badly that it had to be stitched up like the toe of a sock. I asked the vet how many stitches; he said "One stitch. Twenty seven loops." To this day if he wants to look pathetic, he holds up THAT foot and shivers. Very intimidating!

HOWEVER...when the time comes that the vet says there's a major issue, the quality of his life will be the determining factor in his treatment and end of life.

Sounds like the $10,000 pace maker the vet tried to get my mum to buy for her dog that ended up having a defective heart .

So my mum asks the vet "out of curiosity will the pace maker allow my dog to run around outside without any issues?"

The vet says "Oh no, it will just prevent any loss of balance and subsequent falling over due to minor exertion around the house".
I know a cardiac heart specialist Vet who uses human pace makers in bigger dogs. Human Pace makers have expiry dates but they are available at a significant discount to pet owners. He has been quite successful doing this and has extended the lives of Labs, Golden Retrievers etc.

If you want to PM me, I will give you all the details.

Does your vet give you a prescription to buy the insulin at a pharmacy rather than his office? If not, ask. You're entitled to it.

Thank you for the response regarding this. This happened some years ago & she made the decision to put the dog down as the dog was suffering & the expense was too much for her.

That's too bad, sorry to hear it.

Using these 'beyond expiry date' pacemakers for Pets has been a huge cost saving to the owners. Humans can't use them but it doesn't apply to animals.

I have spent crazy amounts of money on my cat over the last few years. Worth every penny in my opinion. But I would draw the line at any procedures, tests, or treatments that would cause her to suffer a great deal. Most vets know you will do nearly anything for your pet, and charge accordingly.

I love my little sweetie pie. Even if she is a grumpy cat.

Wow, you are so beautiful

Your cat is so cute:)
