Very common in many parts of the world.

First ran into it with chocolate ants when I was twelve, and they are tasteless other than the chocolate. Cheating, I think.

Then again in a very demonstrative way in Bangkok. Large insects for lunch!!! But not me, and still not yet.

actually if the ants are fresh and non-coated , black ones are a bit sour and red ones are spicy. kids in rural france used to put sticks in ant hills . as the ants travelled along the stick they would "spit" and it was a tasty treat to suck on the stick afterwards

Only if I were lost in the woods and starving, I'm afraid.
in 5th grade ,during one of those national geographic type films we soo looked forward to on fridays, there was a scene depicting a tribes children gathering grasshoppers.

it explained that this was a treat they all looked forward to ,tossing them on the bonfire too make a crunchy snack.

being 5th graders we of course were saying stupid things like yummy and rubbing our stomaches... the teacher(who was cool and a complete hippy) stopped the film and said " so ,if i bought some bbq grasshoppers ,you guys would eat them?

of course we would ....like as if you can just go to the store in canada and buy canned bugs haha

well damned if he didnt show up with some a few days later! and yes he made us all eat one ..learned a valuable lesson that day ;)

If it doesn't have fur and hooves, I don't eat it. (Pussy being the one exception that makes the rule.)
