I could not believe it when I saw this...

That mom packed a more nutritious lunch than I ate yesterday!! To 'fine' her for not providing a healthy cereal/grain and then 'supplement' with Ritz crackers is ludicrous.

EXACTLY! And the lunch they were supplementing was roast beef, mashed potatoes, carrots and an apple...but they needed to add RITZ CRACKERS to make it nutritious? SMH...

Seriously, though, what would have happened if the parents sent a vegetarian meal? This is so fucked, especially that it happened in Canada. I mean we already know legislators in the US think ketchup or pizza pass as vegetables so it's not a stretch they would do something like this. lol

But this is REALLY messed up. There must be a bunch of examples just like that one too, And lots of 'acceptable' lunches made of:

Back in the early 80's the Reagan administration declare that catsup (ketchup to us) was a vegetable so fries and ketchup qualified as the two veg portions in their feed the kids program ; look were that got them.

That's what happen when we don't take the time to really look into something (including me - I made my first comments before doing so as well).. From another site online:

Since then, the Little Cub’s Den daycare has both abolished the policy of fining parents and instituted a hot lunch program (paid into by parents) that Bartkiw is quoted as saying is great. The Manitoba government went one step further yesterday and told licensed daycares in the province to stop taking Canada’s Food Guide so literally.

A) The government doesn't force anyone to do anything. The actual program is to encourage more nutritious foods that are sold in schools (canteen, cafeteria etc). It's not a law, it's a program to help schools determine how to do it for themselves.

B) It is based on Canada's Food Guide and the choice to supplement with crackers was the daycare's own

C) It was the daycares own policy to check kids meals, supplement and then fine parents...not the government.



So... people at the daycare are not too bright in following and enforcing a stupid policy. They cancel the fine and the policy when one parent complains and tells her story. The government's only involvement is a warning not to take the Canada food guide so literally.

(Now I have to go delete my 'share' link of the story from facebook because I don't really care to share that a daycare in Manitoba used to have a stupid policy but they don't anymore. lol)

Don't forget the "super food" Hawaiian pizza. Its got milk, meat, 2 vegetables and a grain.
