You do realize you're being robbed right?
Yes, that's why I got rid of cable and tv 5 years ago.

I couldn't handle all the stupid reality shows and realized that in spite of having dozens of channels, I could never find anything to watch. And the commercials! You get almost as many commercials as the actual show you're watching.

Screw that. Not worth it. It's all on the internet anyway. And without the stupid commercials!

They can either adapt or die and so far they seem determined to die fighting.
True. Same with many industries who are stubbornly resisting change.

The Telus internet is light years better and faster than Shaw and the TV picture is significantly better overall. While the phone is reasonable, I really do not need it as 99 per cent of the time I call and receive calls from my cell. Once this contract is up, Telus will have to offer up some serious concessions, including jettisoning my land line, or I will just go back to a very basic cable package with internet.
Really? Not in my experience. Shaw is waaaaay faster than when I was with Telus.

Landline? People still have those? :p

I recently cancelled everything except basic services.
Paying to much for a thousand channels of the same shit.

And yeah it was in the paper this morning they are trying to force the cable companies to allow us to pick and choose channel by channel what we want to watch.

*** INSERT STUFF HERE ***

Ok, bbb. You know about Canadian cell phone companies and have explained to us why the high costs and where the money goes. You have also given us some pricing above.

Could you help explain to me why my at home WIFI is almost $70/month? Is it because I am not "bundling"? A brief explanation would be nice if you have time. (layman's terms would be great!!) :)

Honest answer is they have a captive audience with basically only a few players in the marketplace. It's like gas stations and they can charge whatever they want as long as the market will bear it. It's price fixing.

BTW I did look at Telus's website and they do not offer the same packages so its next to impossible to do an apples to apples comparison to categorically state one is less cost than the other.

Once things become "unbundled" I suspect we may see some prices go down, *hopefully*. Like I already said, there are 300 channels and I watch about 10 HD channels out of the whole lot.

I'm on the intro-package atm ($39.95/month) but, once that 6-month period's done, yup $60/mo. Prices seem to have gone way up since people stopped using their cable and home phone packages...

What the hell are you guys talking about nothing to watch? The dramas that are out now or finished ( Breaking Bad) are among the best I have ever watched. I admit to not being a Harvard grad at age 16 so the boob tube does entertain me.

Netflix or PirateBay.org bro. After watching the last episode I just binged on all five seasons of Breaking Bad over the past two weeks!

Screw cable.

double post
when you post the first time and you get the screen warning you that you posted too soon, assume that the post actually went through ok, ignore the warning, and navigate back to the thread using the links near the top of the page. you'll find it actually did go through ok, and you'll avoid posting twice

I agree. Shaw isn't stupid. Shaw will still have bundle pricing as well as a la carte pricing. The bundles will still be the cheapest option for 95% of their customers.
The only people that might save a small amount, are those that want a super minimal basic set up. Of course there is nothing to stop shaw for charging a rental fee on cable boxes, if you don't have enough channels as well.
Have the pvr boxes included with bundles, a extra $20 a month for a la carte customers.
