why is this discussion thread slowly becoming about music and bands?

imo, the disparate over/under ratings for bands will never resolve itself
as different age groups will feel strongly about their 'coming of age' decade and fave bands.

some of the list here is laughable though.
For the win!

This debate about music is really quite pointless since everyone here is from different age groups and their likes/dislikes were formed either a long time ago like myself or within the past 3 - 5 years like some of you.
I sort of thought it was going to go this way when I started the thread but if that's what people want to write about, more power to them. Plus isn't the point of debating to create discourse and expose people to different thoughts and perspectives one normally wouldn't think about and to persuade them to look at things in a new way in order to better themselves?

But if you want something different than music, ok fine then

overrated: the clash
underrated: squeeze
really?
I doubt someone would agree with your statement.

The Clash influenced many, even after Joe Strummer
had moved on. can't say the same for Squeeze.
I think you've been pulling too many mussels from the shell.

the point isn't that the clash suck, or that squeeze are better. its just how each are perceived today. much of it depends on the individual rater.
if you give 'singles 45 and under' a spin every 5 years or so, eventually the ratings will shift.

Underrated; the Animals,Eric Burden is one of the blusiest white boys I've ever heard.
Agreed. If you haven't already I suggest you look up some of Alan Price's solo work. He has a great voice too.

I agree that the Cards are underrated, but it is hard to overrate the Yankees. The have the most pennants, most World Series championships, most Hall of Famers. I'm no fan of the Bronx A-Holes, but those numbers don't lie.

Now the Red Sox... There is an overrated franchise.
I see what you are saying but I meant it more from how the baseball world focuses on them ALL THE TIME. They always appear relevant, even when they are not, this year being a prime example. Apart from A Rod, nothing about this team is interesting. They won't make playoffs, no one on the team is really standing out for their on field play, yet the spotlight still shines brightly on them.

Overrated: Wayne Gretzky
Underrated: Mario Lemieux
It is hard to overrate or underrate the two best forwards to ever play the game. It is doubtful Lemieux will get all the respect he deserves due to his prime bring marred by illness and injury, but he is still recognized by the fans as one of the all time greats.

If there's one forward from that era that is underrated, I think it is Dale Hawerchuk. It was his misfortune to play in Winnipeg with almost zero talent around him, but he still put up some big numbers. Also. He was the guy who won the faceoff AND chipped the puck ahead to Gretzky to send him and Lemieux on that 2 on 1 that lead to the winning goal at the 87 Canada Cup (which he received no assist for go figure :p ) It is too bad he was traded before Selanne arrived, they would of been one hell of a combo.

I often wonder how much more Lemieux would have achieved had he been free of cancer, had a healthy back that didn't crap out, had a designated protector like Dave Semenko, not smoked and trained like the NHLers train today. My guess is he would have shattered most of Wayne's records, hence underrated, IMHO.

Agree on Malbec but also add Syrah and good Pinot Noir.

BTW I have hated Merlot long before Sideways came out. I did laugh out loud in the theatre when he said "I won't drink any stinking merlot".

I don't know Wilde, sometimes rubbing one out together is HOT. Some SP's are asked to masturbate in front of a client. A few I have seen Love it when the client jerks off in front of them while they rub one out then the client covers them with splooge. Not all the time but to change it up a bit  Just a BBB experience :D
