I am sure you worked hard for your belongings, life styles etc, OUR people where victims of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forced_assimilation Colonization http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonization the list goes on.
The Europeans did not do anything to the aboriginals that the aboriginals weren't already doing to each other, (i.e. trying to wipe out other tribes and take away their land), the only difference is that the Europeans had technology and organization. The European/Aboriginal relationship is nothing new in history. The Etruscans 'civilized' the Greeks, the Greeks did it to the Romans, the Romans did it to the rest of Europe, and then the Europeans did it to the rest of the world. It happened, make the best of what you have now.
As for modern aboriginals: I am willing to be that everyone of us on this forum knows an aboriginal, but doesn't realize that person is aboriginal because that person is successful (i.e. they don't fit the stereotype). The "problem children" that you see downtown Winnipeg or on the reservation are not a representation of the whole genotype. The flip side of that is that if you are an aboriginal and your life sucks it is probably because you are a problem child and not because whitey hates you (because for the most part whitey doesn't).

Mods - can you please lock this thread? There's plenty of other forums for those who want to debate first nations issues.

x2

Not only that, this thread was dormant for a year when Leigh revived it in post 59 (inadvertently in all likelihood). The OP probably ran for the hills the first time. His last post was in March, and he was looking for Filipinas.

I am 1/4 aboriginal and agree. People are responsible for who they are, not their past. Your past is what you come with, it is your baggage, what you do with that defines who you are as a person. Too many people use the past as a crutch, an excuse to sit on their ass and cry 'poor me' look what they did to my people 200 years ago. Excuses won't make you successful, they will make you dependent on government handouts while at the same time blaming the government for everything. I hate the hypocrisy of it all. We have made ourselves dependent on the system, the system has not forced itself upon us. If we take advantage of the system, there are tons of ways to lift yourself out of the ghetto and the 'pity me' mind set.

Hate to add to the fire, but racism works both ways. Nothing worse than being talked to like a racist because of skin color. Have seen a lot of white people on a bus, or in the wrong area, get assaulted, and verbally berated just for being white, by native people.
Native people may not be racist to some, but to "whitey" they can be truly nasty, and most of "whitey" didn't do a damn thing besides have billions of his taxes taken as payment for crimes committed generations ago.
I was in the system when I was younger and have witnessed native people calling their own "apples" (red on the outside white on the inside) because they go to university and live in nice houses and are successful.
I have also been on golf tournaments with native leaders and seen the abuse of funds put into their hands. Not all are bad, but for sure some are. Biggest problem with the native community right now is the leadership.
I don't need to point out some of the massive financial abuse with the floods of the last few years and hundreds of thousands of dollars that were spent on "snacks" by the Metis Firefighters association.
Pretty sure some white people had ancestors tortured or murdered by natives at some point so this debate ends up nowhere.
Who cares about color or past. Make the best of things now and stop using history as an excuse.

Holy crap I can't believe this is still going on. WTF Mods - but it is obscenely interesting when people are being hurt with words . . .

So, humour in racism was talked about a while back. Then bodxxx wrote, "Well I dont know what race you are, but I would think The North End bars would have lots of Native girls... How ever if your white and walking into a Native bar... well... lets just say I wouldn't do it unless you are a really good fighter. Sorry Im not trying to be racist... Just being honest"

Now, that's funny. Fuggin racist "not trying to be racist" - hell we know you don't have to try buddy. You are, likely for the reasons others chimed in with. You don't see it in yourself because it is hard for anyone of us to see our faults. ahhaha, that is some funny shit. Just keep being honest - but maybe look in the mirror every once in a while and ask yourself what you know of the history of Aboriginal people in this county.

Some have chimed in that it is time that Natives forget about what happened in history (200 years ago, long time ago, generations ago . . other measures of time as well) perhaps don't know that the last residential school closed in 1996. So, the last mass ass fucking of little boys would have happened around then. The churches all apologised as did Canada. I bet those children who were raped and turned to alcohol to bury those thoughts (because turning to a institutionalized racist society that set up the whole rape, removal from parents etc in the first place didn't look too promising) felt better eh, like you and I would if our children were taken away and . . . let your imagination wander to those dark places, take a look into your children's eyes. Now keep your eyes closed and imagine 100 years and generation after generation of that.

Now, imagine the survivors of that now running the show on reserves. Imagine that little ass fucked boy now in charge. Whaddya think he will do with his power given that the only thing he would have learned in school is to have some butter on hand always. And he had to steal the butter because food was rationed - lowest bid won the contract to provide "education" to the Indians.

So, there is a lot more to all this bickering amongst our privileged selves but when all a guy wants is a cbj, not even a bbbj, we might be better served taking this conversation elsewhere and focusing on helping our fellow perbite.

Lots of Native gals out there advertising as Asian, mixed, etc because of the multitude of negative attitudes out there as demonstrated on this site. Check em out. For me, while I like certain looks at certain times, once I am balls deep it don't matter. But I have to say a nice black ass is to die for and no white, asian, native or other chick can carry an ass like dem black bitches. ;)

A fun thing is every year in Pine Falls they have a aboriginal slo-pitch tourney. You have to be of aboriginal back ground to play in it. Could you see if there was a whites only slo-pitch tourney. And there is the aboriginal games, and the aboriginal music awards. Flip it and see what would happen. Yes racism works both ways. You are what you make of yourself.

Take it up with the catholic church, they got the money to feed the problem, why does whitey and the rest of Canada have to take the blame for what the clergy did/does,I am not catholic, nor religious.

I threw the last line in because it is blatantly racist. So, racists could see racism for what it is - it is always easier for the pot to call the kettle black than for the pot to see itself as black.

If everyone had their legs amputated before the race then we are all equal. If only some have their legs amputated then the race might not be equal. If those that benefited from other's legs being amputated then called those legless ones fucked up and just get over it and it is them that is the problem - if we can accept that scenario as fact, because it is, then we are making headway. No one can forget all that generation abuse. And on top of that Canadian courts, yes Canadian courts, have handed down decisions repeatedly that make it clear to any person who is interested, that Canada does not own the land it claims in law. In everyday practice it is recognized as "Canadian" but in law it is not Canadian land. It is Aboriginal land. De jure and de facto are the legal terms applied to this situation. So, if you were Aboriginal in Canada today and you knew that in law you own the land your community has always owned, yet some others benefit from that in a multitude of ways and layers of ways, and you get criticized for arguing that it is yours and your people do not benefit sufficiently for the benefit taken . . . . its a conversation that has been going for a long time, will go for a long time, and with each successive generation people become more enlightened and begin to see the facts for what they are. So much of the commentary on this board has been so 50s and so 60s it is pathetic to know how ignorant some people are. I genuinely feel sorry for you to have to go through life in such blind ignorance and because of how Canada currently works you don't have a price to pay for your ignorance, other than your ignorance. And the irony is that because of your profound ignorance you are ignorant of your own ignorance. :)
