I've been called gwai-lo, does that count? Are you honestly bringing up some meaningless name calling? Call me a cracker and I will laugh in your face, not take offence. As long as different groups are forced by the government to live together, whatever those differences are, that will exist. If you weren't here, the blondes would be picking on the redheads (which happens anyway) and the lefties would "rise up" against right-handed domination! (As a southpaw, I fully support this movement. We will one day regain what is rightfully ours! npi)

Right on brother

Being 'anti' to a group does not mean racism. I'm pretty anti-American in my rhetoric at times, but that doesn't make me racist. Up until Obama, the decision makers where primarily white, Canada the same - but our citizens are multi-racial so we can criticize without being called racist.

But with countries such Japan and China, which are primarily one race, it becomes impossible to level criticism's of their society or culture without being labeled as racist.

So we can slam American idiocy and ignorance when we see it, but not that of others. I used to have Canada's hyper-sensitive reaction to discussions that involved criticizing people of other races until I discovered that others do it all the time - and learned that calling out and criticizing idiocy is not the same as hatred.

I'm an ethnic person with brown skin, so I've experienced my share of racism since I was a child born in Canada. Most of it was from Asians. When I was in elementary school an Asian boy was making fun of my brown skin...and just all the time all my life I've received cold attitudes from mainly Asians, my neighbors are Asians and they are all mean and nasty to me, I don't know why...I am a very nice person I'm Canadian and really friendly! =( And I love Asians I have nothing against them at all, despite all the crap I've gotten I still have no hard feelings...I usually do toward my own race to the men mostly lol but its not a pure racist feeling its more of an annoyance.

And in our culture (Indians from India or any secondary island they migrated to) light skin is highly valued. The lighter you are, the more beautiful you're considered. There's a word in my culture that means "white lady"...they use it as a compliment to girls, I've been called it a few times when I have makeup on and stuff.

I am sure some Asians have given you "warm" attitudes over the years. I, for one, would not mind paying you a visit to change your mind...

Honestly, the only Asians who have been nice to me were from this business. The best compliment I've ever received on my big Indian nose that I hate so much was from an Asian, so that makes up for all the crap! hehe

Yes, well let's start a fun little game...... let's say things that are true but not racist!

I'll go:

- white people smell stinky!
- asians speak with their mouth full!
- east indians are super cheap!
- black people know how to dance!
- jews are greedy!

gee, that was enlightening.
well pardner, if the shoe fits, wear it !!!

What language?
In the series "Shogun" shot decades ago, the Dutch (I believe) arrived to find that the Japanese custom of taking baths was novel and unusual. In the show, the Japanese were horrified by the smell of the Europeans. This prejudice continues to this day.

The Korean diet is absent of things like butter and, save for a few exceptions (like galbi), almost completely bereft of meat. It creates a higher sensitivity to the byproduct of those things once consumed. So it's not unusual to hear Koreans remark that they can literally smell the butter and meat off the pores of Europeans, especially that the sweat smells unusually rancid.

The Chinese still retain old prejudices about Europeans being barbarians. That along with the fact that alcohol is seldom consumed as compared to Europeans (and that many Chinese are simply allergic to it), it does change a body's olfactory profile. So it's not uncommon to hear Chinese remark that Europeans have a stronger smell.

That's my take on it, but of course I am sure many will get upset and disagree. Just remember before anyone here has a virulent reaction that it's only my 25 cents on the matter.

Okay, thanks. I'd never heard the "whitey stinks" thing before. What's up with asians eating with their mouths open? Never heard that one either.

I think you are probably right but think that this statement is a little inaccurate

http://www.trifood.com/food.asp

I think that counts as more than a few exceptions... and the incredible gamjatang isn't even mentioned there.
When you look at the varieties of food as a whole, yes, meat seems prevalent. But most people don't go eating the breadth of their cultural menu one item after another. The Korean diet is far more restricted on a day to day basis, as is anybody else's. When compared to Europeans and even the Chinese, the typical Korean eats probably 80% less meat.

The most annoying kind of racism or should we say prejudice is from those who come from the same race. The Chinese who had assimilated into the Western culture and are too proud and arrogant. A significant amount of them look down upon the fresh off boat immigrants with disgust. We are pioneers in the plain, just because you came here a little earlier than us, are the fresh off boats really more inferior?
Everyone bickers amongst themselves. All races, religions, even political parties have to bicker amongst themselves to choose a leader.

Your point is noted but when I read this "Vancouver racist towards asians."

I thought...when was the last time you looked at the Rants and raves section on Craiglsist. That is a sad, sick, brewing pit of hate.

if you are really brave click and prepared to be disgusted

North Vancouver
or.... you just send all the racist people, and the people who have no interest in becoming at one with the local culture (aka, share the local values) BACKfrom whence they came. Those who wish to come here and be CANADIANS, working towards that regardless of how long it takes, are welcomed. Those people should be welcomed warmly, and be given every accommodation. The rest? Eff em. I wouldn't move to France or Korea and expect the locals to adapt to me, nor would I try to bring a pack of friends along in order to create a "mini Canada" there. It wouldn't be tolerated, and nor should it be.
