[Saskatoon VICE Unit]

Hello all.

Now, I don't want it to seem like i'm constantly going to be on here, but I wanted to take this opportunity to disseminate a few more pieces of information to the masses on behalf of the VICE unit while we still have the conch.

I was reading the review regarding Kyra today. As that scenario is becoming an all-too frequent refain, I welcome anyone who has a bad date, provider or consumer, or to relay anything you think we should know about, to feel free to drop me a PM with the pertinent information. Even if you wish to remain anonymous and don't want to be involved any further, any information you can provide (name, location, description etc) would be helpful to us in tracking down these individuals and sparing others from worse fates. As I stated before, we want to make sure everybody is safe and nobody deserves to be taken advantage of, made to feel threatened or stolen from.

i would like to ask if saskatoon vice/ city council consulted any sex workers before instituting these regulation changes? (and by sex workers i mean activily working sex workers- male female and trans/ indoor and outdoor) it seems a bit high barrier...the fees, the criminal record check....i wonder if every business in saskatoon is subjected to the same scrutiny...

while the work to end human trafficking and explotation is honorable, it is often used in many parts of canada and the world to justify raids and the continued attacks on our industry...especially now that decrim or some legal reform seems to be looming....

while trafficking does happen, much of the research in this area is extremely biased and exaggerates the numbers. this causes alot of harm to migrant workers and again, has been used to justify continuing attacks on the sex industry by law enforcement.

this kind of registry is dangerous in my opinion, what if their focus changes? they will have a list of every worker who ever passed through saskatoon...

this is a problem already in edmonton with the dna registry. they 8000 women's samples.i asked if there were 8000 workers on the street and of course there isn't, but they still have these women's dna on file, their personal and private information, linked to sex work, and even if they have moved on in their lives, it remains, in the shandows...

in vancouver we are engaged in revising the by-laws and sex workers are being consulted. confidentiality is paramount. this is why it feels like there was little to no consultation with the community affected....sp's.

i know that generally this action comes from a place of well meaning, but i have some serious concerns and would love to hear more from sask vice/city staff.

i had a converstaion with vice today....not exactly concerned with sp safety.....it never ceases to amaze me that police feel they can do whatever they want.

when has it been part of the police mandate to enforce business licensing?

i am unsure how to proceed but have asked a number of our allies for support in finding a way that saskatoon sps can have their say safely, confidentially and that sex worker voices are at the center of any action taken against our industry especially in light of decrim....

that said, i would never presume to tell workers in any region what they need and so am working to find a way for workers to come together and define these things for yourselves.

please message me here on perb is you would like to take part in an action to counter this new and clearly harmful approach to registering workers in saskatoon.

i am really sorry thisis happening out there. you are not alone edmonton are doing something similar as are calgary...
