Yes i have been away from perb all week .My acer good a white screen last sunday and would not re boot ..

So I had to get a new one .. I could not even access the old threads on buying a computer My smart phone just was not ideal for doing that ..even though I could access perd this time .

So I did my rounds of the store . looked at what they had and prices .. most was all greek to me at first .. kind of got used to seeing the specks .. Like intel i3 or i5 or i7 and what the different mgz were .. and turbo boost .. and screens 15.3 and 17.3 .. Als about the other stuff like Wifi and blue tooth..,,, some had AMD processors and other other intel.. and then the graphics cards .

Price was where \i started to see what \i got for 500 \there was lots of makes .. but all very similar in what they had . \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\It was a bit of a chore . I liked my Acer so I started there.. and then \i had heard that Asus was good... then there was Toshiba ,Samsung, Hp,Sony,Dell , Lannova and a few others ... Apple was not on my list

It turns out that most brands of computers are made by the same source out companies .. the cases may be different and some components better quality but still coming from the same factories ..

\but like all way after buying \i still should of looked a little more and check what i was getting for the price .. could of saved another 200 or just got a better computer.. I got an Acer 17.3.. with a 2 gen intel i3.. 2.4 mhz 3mb L3 cash.. 6mb DDR; intel, graphics \DVD drives and screen types ..was same as most and a 750 HD .. I did consider a hybrid with a one SSD

All i got windows 7 over windows 8 |I still may up grade but then I should of got a computer with Intel i5 or i7... ahhhhhhhh

So $494 plus $ 100 to in stall program and optimizing (think I was ripped there) 100 for 2 more yrs on warranty from Staples and tax $777....

Any one got some thing better \i alway can take mine back in 14 days ...lol

if you can afford it, the hybrid with the SSD will reduce boot up times from 2 minutes to about 8 or 9 seconds. It makes everything snappier and is one of the most dramatic upgrades you can do to a computer. Windows 8, although it has a new interface, is also noticeably faster too. Once you get over the fact of the new interface, you'll quickly realize that 99.9% of things you did in Win7, can be done in Win8, with almost the same amount of clicks too.

If \i keep this new one \i will go for the up great .. \but I was using XP and was very happy with it .. the more they improve windows the more it gets bloated ,then they have to make faster chips and people have to buy faster machines {Read my next tread on the computer conpearicy )

My new machine is not working that well and \i ran some scan { which could be scams ) to see what was up .. they say it has over 400 errors and problems ..

And then there is the hard drive The box said it come with 760 G well the bios say i have 684G and have used over 45G and haven't even put ant thing on the computer that it did not come with so I am down 100 G ..and or the stuff they have put on is using 45G to 80G... Windows show s that it is using 18G with all its programs and add on.. My old hard drive was only 120G partitioned at 40 / 80 and if managed \i could do all I wanted for the last 3 yrs or so ..

Also thought a 17 inch would be great to watch stuff on .. might be but at 7lbs or 3.35 KG it is weighty to carry .
