Im an old guy, and just an observation but to me were squeezing the life out of everything.

Everything has to be so political correct. Everything has to be so same samo samo samo.
Every thing any thing different just gets looked on critized frowned upon. Were so afraid to be different so quick to condem anything that stands out. Were such a bunch of followers.

One of my dinner guests was writing his thesis and we talked about it and I thought holy shit how fucking boring.
Im a big reader but don't read a lot lately, because its clear most writers now days have done nothing but sit behind a desk for there entire life.

My young friend soon to be a doctor, while Im well the wallmart greeter.
But honestly he is soon to be a doctor, not of medicine, but he has done nothing knows nothing but a desk and some books.
To me he is an idiot. Sure as hell book smart. But I would not trust him to look after my dog my horse or my kid or even say he was able to change a light bulb for that matter.
Is there something seriusly fucked up with this world or is it me.

But it seems to me a piece of paper is god these day, and life smarts means shit.

Doesnt sound like your friend who is becomming a Dr is not an idiot at all.....he has worked hard and will be rewarded....as for him not being able to take care of your pets or whatever I highly doubt this is true....

it takes a lot to look after oneself and study and if he is capable of that he is capable of more than you are aware of.

So in my opinion you are not really making total sense...

I do know people who have accomplished great things and they should read that book social intelligence I mean their social skills are at zero but sometimes its not all about charm....

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and you kinda have to work with eachothers downfalls...

Life Experience is everything it means alot.
It is what makes you who you are. I have had an incredible 47 years of life some really bad, some really good. But all life experience, I have learned and grown. It has shaped me to be the proud, confident, happy person I am today.

No need to be politically correct live a little step out side of the box and live rules yes there are rules in life to go by, but there is a beautiful world and people out there.
Be different who controls you, be who you are and who you want to be. Life is an amazing thing.
Simple as that.

Has it occurred to you that maybe this guy thinks the same thing about you? He may think that you are a person who has lived their life and done nothing of note.

People with Ph.D.s are just like everyone else. They do the same thing everyone else does, except they do some things no one else has done. Some are idiots for sure, but most are not. If you think their life experience in general consists simply of sitting behind a desk you are dead wrong.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear, it was more of a rant then anything. My post.
You know I know a guy who is the chief of a fire station, and at one time in
Calgary they wouldn't look at you if you wanted a job if you didn't like have a degree in engineering.

But this kind told me over a beer or two that its a crock of shit and there slowly changing the policy. They found out the hard way that guys with engineering degrees don't necessary want to run into a burning building.

I was in the lineup at Tim's and a very cute girl young pretty tiny all cute and bubbly was in front of me. She was wearing a gun.
She was a cop. She didn't look old enough to go into a bar, but she was wearing a gun.
My daughter who was with me, works in a field where she sometimes has to call a cop and I asked my kid what she thought being a female and she said if I scream for help she is going to come and save me. And she shook her head. And she wondered the same thing I did is she old enough to even go into a bar and carry a gun.
It just seems political correctness has taken over our society.

And well people we have lost somthing our individuality our uniqueness and we reward people who have done nothing but sit behind a desk.
And Im serious the kid writing his thesis is such a spas he isn't able to change a light bulb. But he is getting his doctorate and he is going to be working in a field that has the ability to effect social change to our culture. Change our social policies and the way we think about things.
But he has never held a job in his life kissed a girl he has never did anything but go to school.
I don't know but I just see something wrong with that.

My kids both have university degrees. But they also have worked, from flipping burgers to cutting grass and shoveling snow whatever they have done it.
I don't know but life just seems wierd now days.

I think holier than thou book nerds who had no life experiences & couldn't tie their own shoelaces
have been around since before the days of Einstein. Is this news? No, just a rant. People with
"higher education" tend to look down on other people who have lived life outside of a library.

Interesting thoughts bouncing around. I sit here no phone and my work computer is down. Got to love technology. But I too wonder about your comments.

I have many a BSc and MBAs that come to apply for work and I really do not spend a lot of time looking at the marks or how many years they were in school. What matters to me is what they can do for me and my businesses. Can they help me to service me customers can they come to me with new ideas that will change the world I live in. I do not care if they have twenty years in school or 3 years what matters is what they can do for me.

Every individual has something to contribute in or out of school. No one lives in a cave. These people in university have much to contribute as they see the world differently than I do. I see things different than they do. WE all have value. I recently had an agrument with a Professor from a major university in Germany. He had worked at P&G 20 years ago and he was teaching students about economics and I told him he was full of Shit. I totally disagreed with his concepts and model. He had lost touch with the market. Now there is some value to his idea but put it in context. It does not work today. The world is changing so fast. What worked yesterday does not work today.

I think the key here is keeping an open mind on both sides of the table my friend. Your dr friend has value and with some life experience he can contribute big time. You would be an ideal mentor for this young fellow. Together you could make huge contribution in your fields of interest.

I have three core business right now and all are in completely different industries yet I gain so much from each. I have so many employees that I feel bad as I do not know them all but I know that we have so much talent and capabilities if I could just harness it we would be unstopable.

The paper is meaningless unless he can do something with it. But knowledge is like that. You can be the best piano player but if you play in a cave and no one hears you what value does it have to the world. your job is to get that young person out to the world and once the world sees what you have to offer we all benefit.

now if I can only get my blackberry to work and my computer to work with my scanner I too could make a difference in the world. But try and get a service person on the phone at 7 PM in Stockholm. I wonder why I pay these IT guys. Damn technology is a bitch. Especially when you get old.

Life experience is everything, if you can apply it to improve your life.

Education is everything, if you can apply it to improve your life.

If you can't apply anything you've learned, it's worthless.

Many people don't have the personal strength to know and guide themselves to success on their own path, so they choose paths well traveled by others in the hopes of attaining success. Paths to post-secondary degrees is an example of such. Others enter into enterprises known to be successful. All these people are hedging their bets, and there is nothing wrong with being risk averse - but know that such persons are inherently limiting themselves from true personal success and only some choose to overcome it.

Changing lightbulbs has never been a requirement for changing society. You might think he is a "spas", but chances are that he probably knows a lot more about his field than 99.9999% of the human population. Those are exactly the kinds of people who DO change the world. Lightbulb changers have never done anything.

The specialist might invent the atomic bomb. He may have no clue about being an everyday handyman, how to pick up girls, relate to people socially, or what to do in an emergency.

I have never really understood though how a guy can be such a genius in one area but a total fuck up in other areas.

No one is perfect! We are all good at somethings and bad at other things.

In one of the orphanages my foundation funds we did a superhero program with the kids. The workers looked at each child and identified the childs special talent at the sametime they identified a problem they had. We bought super hero outfits for the kids and they got dressed up and on my recent visit through a translator they told me about thier super power and we recognized each of them. We discussed thier weakness. I don't think the little ones understood what was going on but the older ones got it and they really got into it.

Everyone has some talents, skills, knowledge, capability, and everyone has weaknesses. It is what we do with our strength and how we can turn our weaknesses into an advantage. For example of your guy there who is in the camp. He obviously has some great knowledge. He also does not have street understandng or day to day knowledge. I like kids like that because ignorance is bliss and they do not see the ceiling. They only see the stars. In Sweden there is an old say that translate into if you jump for the stars you won't reach the star but you will reach a branch or the top of the bush. My point is that guys like that has knowledge and does not know failure and will try things that other say will not happen or could not happen.

So do not be so quick to judge people. Yea some are full of it but who cares everyone is entitled to an opinion. Those with an open mind are more likely to suceed than those with a close mind.

Personally I like to surround myself with people who are smarter than me. (Not hard to do). No one has my experiences but I could never have a PhD. We have a saying in my companies that none of us is as smart as all of us.

No one is saying one is better than the other. I just think it is sad when people who have talents never use them for the common good. Or worst use them to hurt others or hurt society in general. I remember being a kid in foster care and in institutions I was always told I was a problem kid that I would never measure up, that I was a lost cause, and I would never amount to anything. I just decided when I was young I could be what they told me or I could prove them wrong. So I worked and worked and worked. Every moment and every second I worked. I got myself out of living on the street. One opportunity got me another opportunity and my superpower was hard work and not being smart enough to give up or think I could not. Persistence beat resistence. I just kept banging my head against the wall until the wall fell in.

I am not a smart guy in comparison to a lot of guys out there. I am not good at changing light blubs and I am no handy man. I just work all the time 7 days a week 18 to 20 hours a day. That is my superpower. My weakness is not being smart. So I learned to turn that into a strength. So I took risks other would not do and I surround myself with people who are smart.

Does that help 7of9.

Sorry for the rambling. Just awaiting my dinner meeting.
