I was at the casino.and had 4beers within about a 1.5 hours then i left to go home. On my way home i got pulled over and the cop said the casino had called to report me as getting in a vehicle and driving after having drinks. I blew a fail twice and got a 90 day suspension vehicle impounded for 30 days for blowing over 0.08. now i read i will be forst to put a ignition interlock on my car. Take a drivers safety awarness program etc. Now my question is if im moving to alberta to work and not come back to bc can i get a license in alberta to drive in alberta?

Isn't that kind of unusual for a casino to do that? I mean I'm sure he wouldn't have been that drunk with 4 beers in 90 minutes.

Don't drive ater you have been drinking.... "0 tolerance" is exactly that

I know a guy who was hit by a drunk driver, who claims to have only had 4 beers, the victims life is hell, headaches, sensitive to light, no long term memory anymore, and the accident was 6 years ago...

JUST DON"T DO IT!

Casino pwned you hard. We're you winning a lot? Because if you weren't, sucks on you :/

As already advised, a great lawyer is your best bet. Good luck.

Alberta will require a drivers abstract from your previous local, therefore they will know what u did and follow the driving ban, consider yourself lucky it wasn't a 1 year ban with no chance to
get your licence back early. I also mooved to Alberta after having a .08 infraction on my drivers abstract, be ready to pay the piper, it's going to cost you a fortune to get insured there with a .08 on your record, GL.

to follow up on gonzo's point, keep your mailing adress in BC. when your able to get licence back get it under BC, till your .08 is at least a year past conviction date. Alberta i don;t think will give you insurance till a year is up, and the fact for the next 3 to 7 years Albertas insurance will rape your bank accout. You can probly count on $5,000 - $$8,000 a year to drive with a .08 on your record there, haha

on a side note, Sask is the cheapest for insurance, so if your close to the border i suggest live there and commute, you'll save in the long run, also they will accept the blow machine in your car and not demand you not drive for a full year like i think Alberta will do to you. Or stay in BC

If the Casino took the time to call the cops they must have felt you were impaired while walking out. Did you lose count after four beers and forgot about the Jaeger Bombs?

But seriously, I made a conscious choice not to drink and drive anymore. There are just so many roadblocks these days and after the Lions game last Saturday I went through two road blocks on the way home. It is just not worth trying to get away with this stuff. The old guys behind me at the game were absolutely loaded and spilled some beer on my friend. I said, I hope you guys are taking the Skytrain home and they laughed with one guy saying "I'm ok to drive". Unbelievable.

I will drink at home or if someone else volunteers to be the DD for me when we go out.

If you have $4 - $5K to burn you can get a lawyer and they might be able to get you off on a technicality or a reduced sentence. If the cops did the roadside test and within two hours retested you at the station then they pretty much have your nuts in a vice. If they didn't document everything properly it can be tossed out.

You need to apply for an administrative review. You usually have 7 days to do this from the date of the alleged offence. You are most likely going to lose that unless they are not able to provide you with full disclosure in a timely manner. I can recommend a very good criminal lawyer in New West. who should be able to throw it out or at the very least provide you with good advice. PM me if you are interested in the referral. This whole 90 day prohibition is their way of circumventing the criminal process where you are more likely than not to not be convicted.

Also your driver's record will show a suspension and not how high you blew, the assumption will be that you blew under 0.08 as you had not been criminally charged or convicted. You should do ok in AB but again double check with a lawyer.

On a related note the OP asked for advice on what to do not judgement from all the holier than thou peanut gallery. The question could have just as easily been I got busted for solicitation, I wonder how many self righteous assholes would have responded!!!

The only vehicle you'll be allowed to drive is yours w/interlock installed in it... And the year doesn't start till it's installed, so putting it off doesn't help either. Just hope your job doesn't involve a company vehicle!
Be ready to shell out 5k or more

Give your head a shake!

A roadside screening device says pass, warn or fail while combining the alcohol in the accused's mouth with that coming from his lungs. This often leads to erroneous readings and the police taking the easy way out instead of doing the proper paperwork and charging criminally. I am all for harsh penalties for convicted dui's but handing out sentences on the side of the road after a couple of beers is a complete lack of common sense.

No one has any idea of what the OP weighs and how much 4 beers would have affected him in a 1.5 hour period, given that the body gets rid of approx the alcohol content of 1 beer an hour.

Shitty dude, I feel for you, but even $10000 in the end is lucky to not have been charged with vehicular manslaughter. Rare that a casino or any bar does that without warrant, so I'd get your lawyer to look into that-or not- if its too damning-you would know best, so be honest with yourself, and question why a establishment would do this.

I use Canada line and cab it home whenever I go downtown. Cheap investment, plus parking downtown is about the same as a one way cab fare in my justification. Basically the price of 1 round amongst friends.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, just affirms what I am doing is right, need a reminder once in awhile.

Let me get this straight. You think that if someone starts a thread...obviously using a new handle, and says he is looking for legal advice after beating his wife, we should just offer advice and not tell him he is an asstard for beating his wife? And you want me to give my head a shake??

I applaud those on here who choose to not consume any alcohol and drive. Others set a limit. But it comes down to being responsible.
I highly doubt that this is the first time the OP has had numerous beers in a relatively short period and gotten behind the wheel and either way, you are taking issue with people chastising him for his actions.

If he follows your advice, maybe he will be able to drive in Alberta??
But if he listens to some of the other comments here, maybe he'll avoid taking an innocent life.

I would like to start off by saying I agree that we shouldn't be drunk and drive. Recently, I have noticed an unintended consequence of the current drink and drive laws that are turning some casual drinkers into heavy/binge drinkers. Some people who used to have one or two drinks are now drinking until they drop so as to justify/maximize the value of the cab ride home. The theory is that if I am getting a cab ride home, I may as well make the trip worth while. How? By drinking more...

@BJ, glad we're not Swedish!;)!

Thx for the helpful comments. It was at starlight casino. I waa playing blackjack up 200bux. But yah i would suggest not even drinking 1 beer and driving because even within the legal limit theres is fines and suspensions not worth it. I got pulled over after the alex fraser bridge i waa driving.fine within speed limit and everything got pulled over so i asked what the reason was and they said starlight casino reported my license plate for impaired driver. They gave me 2 breathalyzers both failed. Then ordered me a cab impoumded my car for 30 days ....told be my license is suspended for 90 days and then i read online that to get my license back i have to pay 1700$ for a ignition breath lock machine then take a 900$ impaired drivers program and pay all associated fines and if criminally convicted get a criminal charge along with another 1000$ fine a monthly fee of 150$ for the ignition lock monthly feefor 1 year etc ... but cops are cracking down hard i even got a fine last week for goin 70km in a 60km zone near fraser highway and 152st. 4 Beers to me is my maximum i drink as im 6'2 207 pounds

In Europe so it seems it's a completely different culture. People drink for the enjoyment of having a drink and not getting BLASTED/ Pie-eyed Drunk..
Certain parts of Europe not named the United Kingdom for sure. I was drinking 7 to 10 pints (a pint is almost 1 and a half bottles) a night by the time I was 18. I quit binge drinking after I got alcohol poisoning during a college bender. Now I enjoy a glass of wine or two and the occasional beer.
