Getting BONED by Canada Post!

Recently I've had to send a number of small items to customers in the US and the UK. I guess their normal supplier had closed up shop so they came to me. Anyway the items are all basically the same size and weight and are packed in a box approx. 6" x 4" x 4".
I can send these items to the US or the UK as a "Small Parcel" by air and it costs ~$7.00 - 8.00.
Yesterday I sent the same parcel to Coquitlam, B.C. and it cost over $14.00.
How does it cost nearly doublke to send the exact same item to B.C. as it does to sent in to Georgia or the UK??

I'm gonna call Canada Post today although I'm sure I won't really get any kind of a satifactory response.

And then they wonder why so many Canadians have gone away from using Canada Post?

I just plugged in your dimensions and gave it a weight of one pound. $12.88 to Vancouver from a Postal code I know in Winnipeg. Yes we get hosed. They lose money and are losing more and more money to couriers. Pretty soon they will have to cut some of their services just to stay alive IMHO. Too bad because whenever I have had a postal problem it was fixed promptly and courteously. My carrier in my area is outstanding and is the only guy I tip at Christmas time.

I have received packages from UK, Italy, Israel and USA as parcel 'air post' and their rates are a lot cheaper than ours going that way. I was astounded when I got my package from Israel in four business days and it only cost the equivalent of C$7.

I have a friend who recently bought something quite fragile from Turkey. Ridiculously low postal rate, safely got to Vancouver in no time at all... :confused:

Because when you send something to an address in Canada, you are paying for both sending and delivery, whereas an address outside the country is just the cost of sending. That is also likely why parcels coming in from other countries have lower costs....it reflects only their cost of sending, not our delivering. Delivery of stuff from overseas is subsidized by our sending costs, they in turn subsidize delivery from Canada using their own cost structure. That is probably how Canada Post calculates the costs.

You're right. I spoke with a lady from Canada Post and she was actually helpful with her explanation.

Basically it boils down to the fact we in Canada pay our postal employees waaaaaayyyyyyyy more than in other countries. I knew this already. When a package goes to the US or UK, you're only paying for Canada Post's underworked/overpaid employees to get it out of Canada and then the other county's postal service takes over. When sending in Canada, your paying for the overpaid Canada Post workers to provide the entire service so it basically doubles.

Can't say I'm suprised with this answer. Not happy with it but not suprised.

Back in 93 I almost got in there, sorting mail, at 18$ an hour (when minimum in Wpg was around 5.25) - I can only imagine what they pay now....

Actually they are vastly overpaid and get disgustingly good benefits with those being health and dental plans
as well as a fairly decent pension plan.They also get paid vacation which grows up to 8 weeks with enough time in...I know of a guy who has worked for canada post for 25 years and he gets 6 weeks of paid vacation
and they also get 15 paid sick days a year that are allowed to roll over year over year if not used so theoretically if a guy worked at canada post for 30 years with only 5 sick days taken a year he would have 300 banked sick days he could use for "stress leave" right after his 8 weeks of paid vacation and be paid for over a year without working a single day....pretty nice little package if done 1 year before mandatory retirement....and yes this does happen.

I have worked at Canada Post and it's a dirty & obviously boring job. Parcel sorting where the trucks drive in to the lower level and you breathe in diesel exhaust.
When you blow your nose it's black snot.
Pay back in the mid-90's was around $18/hour and maybe it's $25/hour now.
That's good money? It's pay cheque to pay cheque for Vancouver.
What lifestyle is this-they can afford Starbucks coffee?

Quit your complaining since you CHOSE to live in Vancouver.....if in the mid 90's you had opted for a job in
Chilliwack you would be living the life of Riley as you could have bought a home for under 100K whilst making
a decent living....you chose your lot in life so dont complain about it you over paid and over compensated
union employee who is pretty much un-fireable.

Not complaining but pointing out that there is nothing to be jealous about as it's a regular job (pays the bills) with no future.
I did leave the job and only worked for a year as my health is more important than medical/dental + sick pay.
Why the hate, most likely you are a dog fucker and wish you had job protection?

Unfortunately I'm going to limited to Seattle.
That's kind of what I normally expect in the strip joints in the USA. I've only been to a few places but it seems if they serve alcohol then only the tops can come off and the nude places don't serve liquor. I've always thought that was strange contradiction. Here in MB. the girls get all naked but if you buy a private dance there is no touching, while in many states, the ladies can't get naked but if you buy a private dance, you get a great lap dance with lots of grinding and touching. Ya, I was at a place like that in IOWA a many years ago. No alcohol served but you could go to the liquor store next door, buy your beer or liquor and bring it in. They supplied free mix and even had coolers and ice at the tables and booths for your beer.
That was the place I was introduced to the "dollar dance." :)
