I worked in retail in the early 2000s. At the first store I worked in (selling ladies accessories), my wage was $8/hr, then I was promoted and my wage increased to $9/hr. The manager only got $10/hr.
Then I worked at another store (ladies clothing), and I think I started at $9.35. This was back when the minimum wage was $8, so I felt pretty lucky. The manager was getting something like $15/hr.
My guess is that anyone working a standard position in retail (not management) is making between $10-15/hr.
