It was explained awhile back in a post that Malado is a term that is often used:
Maldo (A slang) is one who is half black & half white. A person of mixed race. It is spelt as 'Melado'
We are all used to the term:
mulatto (male); mulatta (female) - not considered a polite term to use these days, we refer to them as "of mixed race" or "biracial" now.
Some think mulatto is an insulting term? (just something I have read)

Exactly! "Malado" is for people who can't spell or who mispronounce "mulatto". If "mulatto" is insulting, then so is "malado".
Besides, it's only intended as a physical description, not a diminution of someone's value as a human being.
there you go. I learn something every day on this site. I didn't know how to spell mulatto and I always thought it meant a black person with light coloured skin. I'll come back tomorrow for another lesson.
"Mulatto" originally meant a person with one black and one white parent; then it became a more general term describing a person of mixed black and white ancestry. It's true that it isn't used much anymore (like "Negro" to describe a black person), but it isn't really a racist term. Changing it to "malado" is just plain stupid. Some mixed race SPs now describe thenselves as "caramel". I suppose that's better than either "malado" or "mulatto".
Funny, in the French language sex ads in Québec, mixed race SPs routinely describe themselves as "mulâtre". There doesn't seem to be anything controversial about it.

I think the insulting aspect comes from the fact that "mulatto" came from the word "mule", which is the result of a horse & donkey mating. I can see why some people would be a little miffed at that....

Derived from Spanish/Portuguese term for Mule/Donkey hybrid. Any word can be considered offensive depending on the use, NOT BY MEANING.
Ménage à trois = Minagetwa (same word different spelling, but original word is considered correct.)

I apologize... I did not spell it correctly myself. It was actually "Minajatwa."
It bothers me severely that some spell it this way. I once saw an ad from a local SP that listed this as one of her services. I could not, for the life of me, figure out what she meant until I searched.
