Your opinions please on criminal charges for posting or showing gory murder video

As you probably all know about that horrific Canadian psycho killer murder case, in my opinion there are really no contentious key issues to be done about it. The guy is guilty and quickly needs to be either put in prison forever or executed, whichever is fine with me and probably almost all of you.

However something did come up that is contentious, and that is criminal charges the Crown are thinking of with regard to the video that was made by the killer.

In the case of the school teacher, he was immediately fired from his job - and I don't think anyone would disagree with that. But there is the question of whether or not Crown should pursue "corruption of morals" charges.

Then there is the case of the website where this video was first posted. Not only does the Crown consider pursuing "corruption of morals" charge but also "distribution of obscene materials".

And finally, aside from the murder charges, the killer himself is faced with "distribution of obscene materials".

I have my own opinion on these matters, but I don't want to reveal them until we get a good discussion going. I'd like to hear your opinions, and please try to stick to the topic.

I agree. why do I or anyone else for that matter need to see that video? By viewing material like that, you are implicit in the crime itself, and idolizing the perpetrator.

If you go to the store with a buddy and he steals something and gets caught, you could very well be charged as an accomplice in the crime so why not something like these videos?

Ive stated in other post my opinion on this matter, specifically the teacher that was fired, what benefit do you get by watching that? absolutely none in my opinion. The website that was accused of hosting the video says its important for us to see the "monsters" that are out there, but they are forgetting that fact that these videos are after the fact. Walking by Luka on the street would not have flagged him to me as a murderer (granted he does look a little queer) but the videos and website offer nothing tips wise in profiling manners. murderers are everywhere and you wont know who.

We need to remember one thing, distributing porn is not breaking any laws. porn itself is not a crime (at least in many peoples opinion lol) but the distribution of these kind of videos is participating in a crime that had taken place. there should be some respect given to the victim and his family and thats to let them deal with it and not have one of their loved ones be desicrated for all to see.

You can always expect there to be a very small minority of truly fucked individuals in the world. Serial killers obviously, but even those who would post a video like that. That isn't anything new, and even in as perfect a world as we're ever going to get, those people will always exist. What concerns me the most are "average" people who voluntarily watch that video. Decades ago, would so many people have been so gung-ho to watch it? I have my doubts. I really am starting to believe people are desensitized to death. But seriously, there's a limit! Do people who watch this not realize that it's not a movie? That guy being hacked apart was a REAL PERSON with people who loved him. I have trouble watching movies that show that, but I understand people have various reasons for watching those movies, knowing all the while it's fake. I have serious concerns over what type of person would want to watch that video.

you mention 'decades ago' and certain human characteristics. well, centuries ago, crowds gathered to watch public floggings, public hangings, public burnings and during the dark and middle ages, public dismemberment in the form of 'hanging, drawing and quartering'

the roman crowds paid good money to watch gladiators kill each other, lions and tigers ripping into groups of foreign captives and real death war games fought out for their pleasure

the guillotine in france sang its song to huge crowds during the french revolution

actually i can say with reasonable assuredness, that some of your ancestors were probably part of the crowds in one of those countries - and look how well you turned out...

it was the facebook of their times. it was their equivalent of watching gory murder videos. 'the brother's grimm' fairy tales in their original form were horrendous stories of dismemberment, murder and mayhem... and they were read to children!

so i'm not going to get too judgemental until we have looked at the full scope of history and put these matters into their historical perspective

True, I suppose who's to say what's human nature and what isn't. Yet despite those examples, I do still think there's something a little off with anyone who would voluntarily watch that in this day and age. The reason being, when people watched hangings or fights to the death, etc, that was common, everyone did it, you were all raised to be think that was normal. So in that sense no one was really crazy, cause everyone was! lol. Whereas now we're raised to be sickened by those things, to put a large value on life, so if someone isn't sickened by these things we're taught from day one to be sickened by, you have to wonder why? We could probably debate this all night lol, I get that it's a complicated issue. I try not to judge people either but when it comes to things that hurt another human being it's harder not to judge.
