I usually think tennis when I hear U.S. Open. Bad habit because I love watching tennis.

Pretty cool that guys like Els and Westwood are in the hunt. McDowell won't be easy to beat; he's won before....agreed Tiger will have to pull off a magical round (65-67 minimum) under these brutal conditions

Golf continues to amaze me .
I see pro with training a d yrs of experience make this game look like every shot is just a fluke , they have no idea where it is going or what it will do . and that is the truth The balls go every where .. One guy does a hole in one ,, no one else come close Other chip it from a sand trap in to the cup and Tiger on some hole just could not make it work .. But he has had many days like that so I guess he has made great strides in getting back his game ..

I have no idea how Tiger can one day have a great game . and the next . he make a fair amount of mistakes.. and then again most are make twice as many mistakes as he is ... It defiantly seem like a tough course .

btw, the person leading into the final round of a US Open at Olympic, lost on Sunday.
This is the 5th U.S. Open played at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. In the previous 4 of them the 54 hole leader did NOT win. So maybe Tiger still has a chance. But he's never won a major where he wasn't the leader or co-leader after 54 holes. Which is a pretty amazing stat.

Even if Tiger doesn't win, he's clearly on the road to recovery - to even be in the mix when the defending champ, along with the last major winner, not to mention several of the big names (coughcoughFIGJAMcough) are pushing double-digits in the black, is a pretty good showing.

But that's the other side of Tiger's success - he gets very little slack; and that, as they say, is par for the course. He's gonna have to win a major to silence the critics.

It'd be damn nice to see Westwood win, or Els.

I think Tiger is back to a 'top ten' golfer but that is high as it goes IMO. I think he will not win a major this year and will miss the cut at The Open.

I want to see Furyk pull it out as well. He has not won in a long while and they don't come too frequently after 40.
Tiger lost it yesterday. He got away from his own game plan and hit too many drivers off the tee. I don't factor in his Sunday round since he had to play way more agressively to try to post a decent number and that's a recipe for disaster. To suggest he is only a top ten golfer is funny. He is the best golfer in the world again and will continue to be a threat in the majors. His game is coming around and the toughest tests, majors, may be the last thing for him to wrap his head around properly.

The Big Easy is charging as well. I would also love to see him back in the winners circle.
