with these attitudes it is usually learned behaviour from upbringing, racism and discrimination is learned at a young age with the parents attitudes most part not realizing that it is racism that they are teaching their children, crime is a Winnipeg issue not a Native issue, sure most of the majority is of aboriginal descent, but most of the offenders are from Winnipeg and are city born, not from the First Nations, and you get right wing newspapers who profit on crime filled reports which make the issue worse than it really is.. poverty is the main cause of crime in any community.. look at the states.. discrimination is alive and well in this city in all aspects of society.
A lot of the corruption comes from the top though. Look at all the reports of mis-spent money by the leaders of the first nations groups.
I do business with some of these groups.
No, it isn't fair to generalize, but honestly, I have more hassle getting paid by their organizations. I also encounter far more racism towards whites than what is acceptable.
A lot of blame goes towards people on both sides that don't deserve it.
Look at now for example. Millions of dollars given to leaders of flood damaged reserves. Money missing, mispent, yet lots of chiefs and their families drive the nicest vehicles while those on their reserve have nothings.
Native people haven't been kept down. They have access to free education, grants, business money, etc, that none of us have.
How long are we going to blame the past for the current state of affairs.
We have the worst situation here in Manitoba, over any other province.
Sometimes when you take care of peoples problems, they don't learn to take care of things themselves.
I have been with Leigh (clock watcher when I met with her) and one other girl who is Metis.
Enjoyed myself, but the area they were in and condition of their home is what scared me from doing it again.
